One friend of the late priest's said Judge was careful not to out himself to friends and congregants he figured might be upset by this knowledge.

"One friend", none other than Brendan Fay?

Another smear on Father Judge. Obviously, you believe the radical gay activists over Dennis Lynch.

I'm glad this was reposted. I never saw this posted before.

If this is true, and I take it that it is, then Fr. Mike has been defamed and maliciously libeled; whether in life or death. I don't rightly care what the law says about posthumous defamation. This is atrocious. And I got sucked into believing that Fr. Mike was gay!! I'm pissed!

Glad you posted this. This should be reposted as many times as the false charge was made. You might even keep updating us every time a protest letter is sent to the media asking if they checked out the story before publishing.

The people who used this man's death should be held accountable. I wish I knew how to do that.

I believe there is Someone who will hold them accountable, and they won't be able to weasel their way out of it then either.

The problem that I have with the article is it assumes that a homosexual cannot be a good and decent person, ie. that if all of the sudden irrefutable proof comes along that shows that this priest was gay, then all of the sudden all of the good acts in his life become filthy. We should focus on the heroic elements of this (and everyone's)life and get the hell out of bedrooms.

Can a pedophile be a "good and decent person?" Just wondering if your moral relativism can draw any lines at all.

Catholic doctrine says that having a same sex attraction is not sinful, but committing homosexual acts is mortally sinful. If a person is in a state of mortal sin, then any good acts they do while in that state are worthless.

If Fr. Judge maintained his vow of celibacy and remained chaste, then the activists cannot claim him as one of their own. They are just using a dead man who cannot speak up for himself.

They are just using a dead man who cannot speak up for himself.

A common tactic of the Gaystapo. See this thread currently making the rounds:

Selling Homosexuality

"But I am annoyed by Catholics that don't want to see that this "priest" was a active homosexual."

What evidence is there that he was an "active" homosexual? Certainly nothing you've posted.

Wow! Thanks for the link.

To this end, "famous historical figures are considered especially useful to us;" not only do they bring prestige, they’re also "invariably dead as a doornail, hence in no position to deny the truth and sue for libel."

Most of all, Father Mike would care not that you remember him, but that you remember and live the Prayer of St. Francis.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make us instruments
of your peace.
Where there is hatred
let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, union;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that we may not
so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood
as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving
that we receive;
It is in pardoning
that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.

Amen

Let me clarify what I said he was "active in the homosexual community". Yes, that is completely not the same thing that I wrote - I apologize. And I didn't mean to prove that he was actively having sex with men. But I was hoping that my post might give some one a chance to see what others have writtn about Judge. Some of the old people in my parish and in my family find it very hard to understand and, in general believe what is going on (re: the current scandals and liberalization) in the church because it *is* so perverse -- they're in denial -- is all I can come up with.

I just don't understand the feeling on this thread -- this support for a homosexual priest, chaste or not they don't belong in the church --- granted what he did on 9/11 was heroic but like Dreher said -- let God sort it out and I pray that Judge is not canonized because there will always be the spectre of homosexuality around him.

I'll just leave this thread now so I'm less "annoyed" - I don't mean to insult anyone because I recognize your name and others from other Catholic threads and I do always enjoy the Catholic threads and your posts at FR.
In fact, FR has given me a lot of hope that there are even more faithful Catholics out there than I thought.

My view is that there is no such thing as a chaste "homosexual". A person is either chaste or they're not. If Fr. Mike was, and the article suggests strongly he was, then to call him a "homosexual" because of his ministry to the homosexual community is wrong. If he was an "in your face" NAMBLA type like Shanley, I'd understand your POV. In this case I miss it.

Oline,

Thanks for the Rod Dreher reference. I'd heard both sides before, but wasn't sure which to believe. I'll put some stock in Dreher's citing von Essen. Lynch is probably right about this Fay character exploiting the man after his death, for his own sick agenda.

Yet, in newspapers immediately after the funeral mass, Brendan Fay was quoted saying that Father Mike was a homosexual. Fay arranged a media event where many people spoke of Father Mike's concern for the homosexual community and claimed Father Mike was "gay." This was news to me, and I knew Father Mike for nearly a decade.

This is a very sad story. For Brendan Fay to spread this story around and for the media to pick it up without any proof is an injustice to Father Mike.

The Evil Gays are part of a vast conspiracy, Satan's
Way. That is why they act that way. The books, Satanic Verses by Rushdie, Aleister Crowleys works referred to by
Rock Musicians, Laveys cults in Satanic Churches in Frisco,
Eastern Satanics portrayed in Movies and books for centuries, and the one that leads to the front door of our Government, Fiction, called The Devil and Daniel Webster.

This is the inderground who joins them and hundreds of Millions around the world all followers of Satan into one vast Evil conspiracy.
God Bless America and all of us who believe in him.
