Welcome to the USO Canteen FReeper Style
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened it is magical how so many Freepers that post here feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

Our Flag does not only fly at our homes and other buildings.
Our Flag goes to War,it is in the Battle along side our fighting men and women.
And our Flag flys in our HEARTS!

Arlington, Va., Sept. 13, 2001 Military personnel salute as fire and rescue workers unfurl a huge American flag over the side of the Pentagon during rescue and recovery efforts following the 11 Sept. terrorist attack. U.S. Navy photo by Michael W. Pendergrass.
Our American Flag always shines brightly, Always. It aquires its brilliance from the American veterans who have fought and died to preserve it. This flag is our nations very highest honor. There is none higher.
This flag is offered by a grateful nation and the American veterans who have fought and died to preserve it. This flag is given by the United States of America in memory of your loved one. It is for their honorable and faithful service to our beloved country.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

Beneath an unfurling American flag,
an American soldier tends a wounded
comrade in Gray's depiction of some of
the fighting in the Boxer Rebellion in China.
This detail is from a large panel that depicts
Colonel Liscum at the Battle of Tientsin on
July 13, 1900, when he seized the regimental
standard from a wounded color sergeant and
issued what would be his last order.......
"Keep up the fire!"
"Keep up the fire!" has since been the motto
of the U.S. Army 9th Infantry.

Oh sweet Bunny! THANK YOU so much for the wonderful birthday party! I love the flowers, cake, balloons and I can't wait til y'all get to my house! WOO HOO!!!! I have one question, who is that in the front seat of the car bawling (I think it might be tomkow - *giggle*) The Bad Boyz are my heros (don't tell them, but I know that they are really really sweet guys :) ). And the letter from "Tanker" Mike, well what can I say...... it touched my heart and I'm still crying.

Not metric, I measure air from fans in cubic feet per minute. I have some GREAT filters that will filter out the smoke!
To: SassyMom
Well SpookBrat said you were 29.
The extras represent the hugs and kisses the Troops asked me to put on there for you.

Such a beautiful opening, Snow Bunny, that I won't even attempt to elaborate with mere words.
This is one we feel deep, deep down in the heart, and share silently, head bowed,
echoing the sentiments and memories within us.
Help us preserve this nation, Lord, as we thank you for all Your gifts.
Amen.

AMEN! When we were watching the 4th of July parade, there was a group of folks - about 20 I guess - that were carrying flags and they would stop about every block and say the pledge. It was awesome!

Good morning, big sister and all my Canteen FRiends!
My daughter and I are headed to AL today to be with my mom. Just going to swim and float on the lake and ride the jet ski and enjoy being together. That's what we did a couple years ago when my brother died and I know we added a few gallons of tears to that lake, but it was good therapy. This will be too. The funeral and memorial service are tomorrow.
Things are better with my son. He has been in jail for over a week and I think he has finally seen the light and is ready to change his behavior and choice of friends. His attorney and the prosecutor have made a deal which will be just punishment for my son, but will allow him to start school next month and still have his drivers license. He will be on probation for two years and will have some special conditions he must comply with, so I appreciate all your prayers for him, me and our whole family.
I'm so thankful for the Canteen and for all my wonderful friends here. I love you guys and gals! Jen
