Open Letter To Romania's First Lady Her Excellency Mrs. Michelle Guest The U.S. Ambassador to Romania

Esteemed lady Michelle Guest, as you know, we uncovered a bronze statue to honor the great late American President, Woodrow Wilson in the city of Cluj-Napoca on July 2. This is the only statue of Woodrow Wilson in Europe and it is being unveiled at a time when, as you know, there is increased anti-American sentiment on the old continent. Regrettably, you couldn't honor with your presence a ceremony where the national anthems of Romania and the U.S. were played. There were immediate rumors such as: 1) You do not really represent the U.S. in this part of Europe; 2) The Republican Administration boycotts the memory of a great Democrat President; 3) America continues to fight the 'Cold War' and, after 55 years, she is still engage in a McCarthy-like witch-hunt, and so on.

Fortunately, none of the above proved to be true! We learned today that the real motive you, Mrs. Ambassador, couldn't honor our pro-American ceremony with your presence - you were having your period! […] Esteemed Mrs. Ambassador, me and my colleagues hope that, soon, you will be making official the love relation with the one with whom, ever since you stepped on Romanian soil for the first time, you introduced to the Romanian public as: "my boyfriend". You didn't say "my girlfriend" but "my boyfriend", which established, from the beginning, the nature of the relationship between you and your "Latin lover" Alex Navarez. You've been engaged for 7 years already. […] We wish you happiness! And the children you will produce will bring you not only respect and admiration from your 'minority' but the Nobel Prize too. As the late Romanian writer Ion Baiesu used to say, "love is a very big thing!" Many years from now, our offspring will proudly unveil your own statue and the dedication, written in gold on marble will be "Michelle Guest, Three Times a Lady".

Distinguished Mrs. Ambassador and dear Michelle, take care of yourself. Do not stress yourself and do bless us with the invaluable advice you provide the Romanian People. Don't mind those troglodytes who dare to criticize your 'orientation' because they're nothing but dumb shepherds. That's what myself and the mayor of Cluj-Napoca used to be until July 2 when we both had an epiphany and we now understand. God bless your ass!

Yours,

Corneliu Vadim Tudor

This was authored by the leader of the "Romania Mare" party, apparently the second largest political force in the country. It was published in the party's weekly.

Please note that Michelle Guest is really MICHAEL Guest, the openly-homosexual U.S. Amb. to Romania. Apparently he decided to snub a pro-American ceremony over there.

And this from an editorial:

He hasn't done anything worth talking about until now, other than turning our Christian Nation into a staging ground for his sick follies with a "boyfriend" he proudly presented us on his first day on the job. […] Prof. Ion Coja was absolutely right when he smacked this little dick's blacked and swollen mouth, bitten by the snake of depravity. What authority or respect could this entity command to the millions of our countrymen who know that Sodomy is a mortal sin, condemned by the Bible? There is no difference between Michael Guest and the foreign pedophiles arrested on our territory, other that the pedophiles have the decency to hide while this one has the indecency to defy and taunt us with his abominable vice. When Romanians see the so-called Ambassador open his mouth, they think about what he might have done with those lips, while on all fours. Go away and consummate your cravings somewhere else because everyone here knows what you are really worth, your mission ended before it began. No one wants you. You can't visit a school or a kindergarten, you can't enter a church, there's nothing you can't do without insulting our decency. What did the American Administration think when they decided to bring such an offense to a Christian nation such as ours? The U.S. Foreign Service never dared to send a homosexual Ambassador to an Arab country.

Hmmm... are we talking 'thought crimes' here?

Please tell me that guest is not a Bush appointment, or that he is a hold-over from the Clinton era.

Sounds like a great group. (They got substantially more votes in the last election.)

Greater Romania Party (Partidul Romania Mare, PRM) - 19 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, 8 in the Senate - is an ultra-nationalistic, anti-Hungarian party, combining fascist and communist principles. Its orientation towards (re) unification with Moldova is one of PRM's main electoral selling points. In its programme for the elections in 1996, the PRM projected two years of authoritarian rule in Romania. On certain economic issues the PRM holds similar views as the Socialist Labour Party. The PRM’s party leader ran for president in 1996. PRM won 4.5 percent of the votes in the 1996 elections. Party leader Vadim Tudor is very popular among the miniers from the Jiu valley. During the latest strikes the miners shouted his name and called him the saviour of Romania. Party-chair: Corneliu Vadim Tudor

Actually, the guy who wrote this satire was the first runner up at their 2000 prez. election with, I believe, over 35% of the votes (it could have been 40%). Of course, he claims he won but got cheated during the vote count.

He is a Jean-Marie LePen type but leaning to the left. A former Commie but he now claims that he only used the Commies as a vehicle to express his nationalism at a time the Commies were in power.

Tudor got 28.3% in the first round, 33.2% in the final round. Election World

I do not pretend to have any insight into Romanian politics. But Romania is not the issue, here. Why do we have an Ambassador in any country whose conduct makes him a natural laughing-stock for anyone who wants to take a P.R. poke at the United States? Of course, this is not the first time, we have sent an Ambassador somewhere, where his real mission appeared to be to make a statement humoring some agitation here at home. But it never ceases to be inexcusable, whichever party is behind it.

As World leaders, we certainly do not need to fawn on anyone. But as World leaders, it ill behooves us to insult others with deviant exhibitionists, or representatives who for, whatever reason, are likely to offend their hosts. A bully struts his offensiveness. True leadership is often inconspicuous, and never sets out to offend for the sake of offending. A simple respect for good manners and traditional decorum would avoid these situations.

True. Why wouldn't we keep our friends as friends or rather why dare them to respect us less?

Apparently there are some standards. As someone else noted, there was a well-made point in the quoted satire - the State Dept. never sent a homosexual Amb. to an Arab country. And we all know what the our women who need to be in Saudi Arabia must endure.

"This flag was a de facto civil ensign of Romenia immediately after the fall of Ceausescu, and is historically important to the point of being offered to the president of the US [i.e. x42], being thanked by him as a beautiful "poncho".
