THE RANT: Just when did our daughters start dressing like hookers?
Capital Hill Blue ^ | July 8, 2002 | Doug Thompson

God knows I’m not a prude. As a teenager, I hid Playboys under my mattress, ogled the lingerie ads in the Sears Catalog and even knew about the secret place at my high school where you could look into the girls’ locker room shower.

On most Saturday nights, I was in the back seat of my ’57 Ford at the Autodrome drive-in in Radford, Virginia, wrestling with some young lady, trying to score the teenage sexual equivalent of a home run (funny how we learned early on to equate sports and sex).

In the immortal words of Meatloaf in his anthem to raging teenage hormones, the goal was to “see paradise by the dashboard light.”

Memories of those angst-filled days came back over the 4th of July weekend while sitting under a refreshment stand tent at a carnival in East St. Louis, Illinois, watching too many young girls parade by in the accepted attire of the times.

After an hour of so of this, I had to wonder: How in the hell does a teenage boy today keep his hormones under control? Lord, I had enough trouble when a glimpse of young female leg above the knee would satisfy the lustful cravings of a young man’s desire.

But now, with bare-midriff tops, low slung jeans, low-cut haltertops, thongs and see through blouses, there ain’t a hell of a lot left to the imagination.

We’re not talking about just 17, 18 or 19 year old hardbodies here, but 12 and 13 year olds wearing shorts low enough for the tops of thongs to show and blouses with enough open buttons to show what they may one day have to show.

Add to that enough navel, nose and eyebrow rings to start a jewelry store and you start to wonder just when it became acceptable for young women to dress like hookers.

Like most men, I enjoy looking at sexy young things, although at my age, “young” begins at about age 45. But I wonder if young girls shouldn’t at least go through puberty before letting all that they may or may not have hang out for public view.

Should a 15-year-old girl be parading around in public wearing jeans cut so low that they require shaving of pubic hair or shorts that ride high enough in back to show off butt cheeks? Are parents allowing this or are these nymphets changing into their CFM attire after they leave home?

If current teenage attire can shock even a dirty old man like me, has it gone to far?

I don’t have an answer. I do find it unsettling. If I had a teenage daughter right now, I’d probably lock her away until a safer age, say about 30 or maybe even 40.

So by your logic 100 years from now when full public nudity is in

Or 4004 years ago, when that B**ch Eve started it all....

Oh wait. That would really screw up your whole philosophy, wouldn't it? If we're not supposed to know to be ashamed then....

Ah well. It's your psychosis. Have fun with it.

Today's parents want to be their kids "friend".

I completely agree with your astute observation. No one wants to assume the role of adult. It's unpopular. It's a pain. It's too hard. Far easier to join in and be "one of them." So sad. Most kids tend to have plenty of friends. What they need is someone who is strong enough to help them become the best person they can possibly be. That involves a loving parent requiring them to observe certain standards of behavior and dress.

Actually, the problem is the many airheads who are floating around out there who see nothing wrong with the way that things are today. The girls do have a problem. They are not getting the training they need to ward off the evil spells like you.

Sorry, Witch Doctor. There's no moral difference between the sexuality of a man and woman.

I'm sure it protects your ego to think so, but it ain't so.

Many adults of today are posing as adults when really they are re-living their childhood through their kids, or they just never grewup themselves. As a consequence, there is no one at the helm guiding the ship through the icebergs.

As a mom to 5 year old twin girls, all I have to say is that my daughters will not be wearing sleazy attire while they live in my household!!!!!!!

I'm very proud of the fact that my 5 year old girls do not want to have their tummies showing in public. One of my daughters was asking if they made 2 piece suits that cover her tummy. She wants a 2 piece because it would be easier to go to the bathroom with a 2 piece, but she is modest and wants her tummy covered.

I'm sure this won't continue, but I will encourage this.

Now there's the irony for women: they've desperately tried to stop pleasing men and begin living their own lives only to find in the end they craved men after all.

I suppose it's the teenage angst of needing to be accepted, to have your worth as a person (of which you have existential doubts) validated by others. And for some girls that means striving to make themselves into boy-bait.

Funny (not really!) how this flies in the face of feminist nonsense, which has already been sprayed on them in by the gallon already by adolescence. That probably just adds to their confusion.

Some girls never outgrow this phase. If all did, there'd be nobody (umm, so to speak) to work at titty bars.

And, the end result is the girls end up with someone like Danconia. And, then, they end up used and alone.

Like Hooters. It seems neither the boys nor the girls grow up while serving and dining there. :)

It all goes back to the parents and how they raise the kids (as opposed to having the kids raise the parents).

This calls for an epigram!

"You either raise your children, or you lower them."

And pregnancy has what to do with desire, exactly?
You're not living in 1500. We do have modern birth control.

1. Pregnancy has to do with the act, not the desire. Remember, I spoke about the importance of the difference.
2. Birth control is less than perfect, especially in the hands of teenagers. Undesired teen pregnancy is a major problem.

Living a life of appealing to the lowest common denominator does not bring maturity. I understand that Hugh Heffner has young girls around him. When he falls asleep, his escorts party with the other guys.

Kids NEED parents - not more "friends". I can remember pushing my parents' buttons just for the sake of seeing if they actually gave a ****. Trust me, they didn't disappoint me, no matter how much I "complained." Call me old fashioned, but strong values can't just be given lip service, they have to be enforced by actions. Good parenting requires resilience, a certain degree of compassion, and COURAGE.

I'll level with you, I was never allowed to leave home wearing anything slutty but that didn't mean I didn't sneak out the door with a sexy bra or perfumed stockings in my purse I could change into once I was out of Mom's sight. I never took it so far as to look like a complete hooker, but I wanted to get my cleavage and legs on display for the admiration rush we get out of it. Face it, we adore attention.

That said, I think I know enough from my own experience and years of sneakery to counter my own little girls when they arrive at that age, and from what everyone tells me about genetics, they'll be as sneaky as I was or more so.

Good point there. And lots of young women haven't helped Hefner retain his youth. The formula didn't work for the aged King David in the Bible either.

I agree. I have 5 year old twin girls, and I have a hard time finding clothes for them. Last year, I shelled out a lot of money at Gymboree for them because Gymboree had cute, modest clothes. It seems the cheaper the store, the sleazier the clothes.

Good parenting also requires a good sense of humor and a lot of patience.

Artistic license, at best. Yada, yada, yada.

Many parents themselves, just like Peter Pan, don't want to grow up. They don't age gracefully. I remember a thread a few months ago about a modern-day, space-cadet mother who posted her young daughter's pic on the web and wrote to guys. When the guys visited her home, she watched the guys have sex with her 13 year old daughter. There are many mothers like that now. They are the product of the 60s and 70s free love and drug culture. They are getting old now, and they never matured past self-indulgence and selfishness. They don't care who they hurt. They only want their own cheap thrills.
