men see no reason to value a woman and treat her like a lady if she doesn't value herself A woman who likes sex and isn't ashamed of her sexuality doesn't value herself?
(Why am I fighting the feminists battle here? Aren't there some lurking liquour license types on FR to handle this??)

Adults are free to do as they please of course, but the subject here is CHILDREN dressing like hookers. You don't find that problem with boys... usually males who dress like hookers ARE hookers.

It's threads like this that make me glad I had only sons.

That's why I shop online. I don't want to wear baggy rapper clothes and I don't want to look like everyone else in Tommy Hilfiger. Also, I get tired of the snotty help found in most department stores.

When? The 60's. That's when it started.

Many mothers buy their daughters shirts with things like "hotty" on them. I remember getting into an argument with my daughter in a store about a low profile baseball cap she wanted. It had a winking smiley face embroidered on the front, and it said "flirt" beneath the smiley face. I refused to buy it, unless she agreed to remove the word "flirt" with a pair of scissors. I can't remember if she wanted to buy it after that or not, in retrospect, I should have been MUCH TOUGHER!!!!
I made the same daughter model a pair of shorts she argued with me about wearing for her dad. He made her go put on a longer pair.
Pitty the 10 year old still at home -- she's gonna have a much stricter Mama.

No one is saying women shouldn't like sex and be ashamed of their sexuality. But they don't need to like have to be over the top about it and the same goes for their impressionable daughters.

I think the problem is adults like Britney Spears send just that kind of message out to children. Don't think twice about what you wear and if you look cheap in your clothes don't have a care.

MTV, movies, advertisements- all have exploited sex for it's sales potential. Pitching it to little girls is going too far IMO.
Early South Americans sacrificed virgins to improve crop yields, etc. Today, they are being sacrificed to improve what- the stock market position of a few mega clothing and entertainment companies? Screw 'em. It's no different, and this form of 'sacrifice enmasse' must stop or else you can kiss whatever ideals you might have about personal freedoms good-bye, along with the culture that once rested upon it's foundation.
Sound harsh? It should, freedom and responsibility come as a package and this 'package' is loaded with irresponsibility.
Parents and others who 'enable' this exploitation are merely unthinking sheep. A truly free-thinking society would bankrupt those who enduldge in this type of marketing, the exploitation of children.
"Sorry Calvin, got no virgins for you to sacrifice today".

My theory is that it all started with the 'Glamour Shots' at the malls.
I was amazed when friends let their 13 year old, back in 1994 get made up like a whore and have her picture taken.
I actually said to him, "so you let someone dress and make up your daughter to look like a whore?". He gave me the anquished Dad look. He didn't want it, Mom and daughter did.

Hey you reminded me of the Calvin Klein commercial back in the late 70s with a pubescent and very lovely Brooke Shields that said: "Nothing goes between me and my Calvins." A lot of people were shocked by it then. Now a days it would be considered too genteel. It shows you exactly what progress we've made in outfitting young women since then.

The Brooke Shields look no doubt.
Just when did our daughters start dressing like hookers?Chaulk another one up to the Clinton legacy...
Emulate Monica. Snap thong. Etc.
To: goldstategop
with a pubescent and very lovely Brooke Shields ..Exactly. Wasn't she about 14 at the time? Her parents went for the buck. Klein made a (few) bucks. The cycle continues. Question for Klein: "What's next, an eight year old in a thong?" (FWIW, I think I already know the answer.)
To: budwiesest
Yeah, it was the raw sexuality that she oozed that disturbed people more than the jeans. But it put Calvin Klein on the map.

I don't know about the rest of you, but my daughter has a remarkable sense of self esteem. We haven't had the slutty let-it-all-hang out problem with her wardrobe, because she hasn't felt the need to draw attention to herself by dressing to shock. Now...if I could just get her to keep her mouth shut. Nah - not a genetic trait in my family.

That reminds me of the old joke: The "inner city" varient is:
What's the difference between a Ho and a B***h?
The Ho will only sleep with you because you got money
The B***h doesn't think you got enough money for her
To: goldstategop
But it put Calvin Klein on the map.In many ways, I think it took him off the map, so to speak. What map you ask? The map that guides us all to a certain destination where we may enjoy all of our freedoms as individuals.
Adulthood and childhood are two distinctly different conditions. Go ahead and exploit adults for all it's worth, but children are a different matter. Exploit a child and accept the risks that come with it. For some this might include upping their dental insurance.
