That sounds sensible. It has been the tradition in Georgia has been to change the state flag every few decades. I think that the current flag is the seventh state flag since the Civil War. I notice the Confederate battle flag wasn't added until 1956. What was the reason?

Even though outnumbered in all things military, the South inflicted over 100,000 more deaths than the Union. You would know that if you ever read a fricken history book.

You know as well as I do that when it comes to public debate and public opinion on the confederate flag that the vast majority Americans are ill educated on the subject. They run 100% on emotions and knee-jerks. And blindly associate the Confederate Flag with the Klan and hate groups.
In the battle of state flags and flying the confederate flag at confederate monuments, the charge of educating the public about the flag needs to be taken up by supporters of the flag in a major fashion.
While its not pretty, it is accurate. PERCEPTION and emotion drive the division and debate surrounding the Confederate Flag. Not facts and logic. That is the truth and the truth must be dealt with when fighting this battle.

Please excuse NationUnderGod - he has never heard of Edgerton, W.Williams, or Winbush. N.U.G. has probably never attended a UDC or SCV sponsored event - if he had, he would know there are many black Southerners who support the South. We've covered the topic many times on FR.

I have a big US Flag in front of my house and a big 'ole Rebel flag in the back. I dare some son of a bitch to come and tell me I can't be using that flag.

This was the Georgia state flag between 1906 and 1920:
That was a nice one, but it only lasted 14 years.

You can fly it all you want. In fact, I would like someone to try and take it down to only get their ass kicked by ya.

notice the Confederate battle flag wasn't added until 1956. What was the reason?Well, that's anybody's guess, I suppose. The important thing is the tradition to continually update the fashion.

The new flag is the ugliest of the 50 states, if not the world. It violates standard rules of banner design. Remember King Roy, called a secret session with only 15 minutes notice to change the state flag.
Funny thing is....the CBF is still there! Another failure for the NAACP (and King Roy)!

Probably the most uninformed, uneducated and ridiculous post in the history of this forum.

And that goes for the US Flag as well. It will always be out front, but I will not forgot my poor as hell kin who fought for the South in that awful war.

Perhaps "King Roy" will be ousted in the next state election. Serves him right for becoming a PC whore.

Those who see that flag and are black Americans feel divided from their own cities who fly it.Well, thanks a boatload for naming yourself to be my spokesman.
I'm one black American who is not intimidated to what amounts to a piece of cloth. I don't feel divided from anywhere...next?

Actually the GOP is distancing itself from the GA state flag issue.Overall, that's a smart move - most people that the party is trying to reach, both black and white, feel that the flag should have been changed; and that those who continue to support the old flag are tilting at windmills.
I got no quarter with the old or new flag - there are much more important issues for the party to deal with here in Georgia.

Try something different and maybe it'll catch on.

Actually, the Confederate battle emblem was added to the Georgia State Flag in direct response to the Brown v. BoE decision as a symbol of defiance against integration. Georgia should have gone back to the pre-56 flag, which would have honored both history and all Georgians. The pre-56 flag would have been fine with me, and I'm suspecting fine with most people in Georgia. A large part of the problem is the way in which Barnes went about it. He got no input from the masses; on the contrary, he went to Tyrone Brooks (head of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, who himself was spearheading getting the flag changed in the first place) and a small handful of others to get this done. The General Assembly didn't even get to see the flag until the process was over and done with.
And never mind that none of us lowly serfs got to see it...
