Gallup Stunner: Americans Blame Clinton for Business Scandals

Despite a coordinated Democratic Party-media push to pin blame for the recent wave of corporate scandals on President Bush, a majority of Americans currently blame ex-President Bill Clinton for the business corruption that has sent the stock market reeling and caused a crisis in confidence in corporate America, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Monday.

51 percent of Americans surveyed agreed that President Clinton's "moral failings in office" contributed to the permissive climate that encouraged corporate leaders to behave unethically.

Of that number, more than half, 26 percent "strongly agreed" that Clinton was partially responsible for the business scandals. The rest, 25 percent, "moderately agreed" the ex-president deserved blame.

When asked the same question about President Bush, only 15 percent "strongly agreed" that he set a climate that encouraged corporate corruption. 31 percent "moderately agreed" with the same proposition, for a cumulative total of 46 percent - five percent less than those who blame Clinton.

Another stunning development: President Bush's approval ratings have actually improved in the weeks since the Democrat-media complex began shifting blame to Bush.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll put Bush's overall job approval at 76 percent - up six points since early June.

"This result alone suggests that the president has been untouched by these scandals," Gallup said.

Gallup surveyed 1,019 adults over the age of 18 on June 28-30. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

Yes, indeed, many "regular" Americans discounted the need for "character" - anywhere - in the boardroom or in the home...thanks to Clinton....and certainly in government....as long as money was flowing in!

It was the ultimate scam.

President Bush is once again having to be the tough cop...riding in to clean up one more Clinton mess. THAT should be the "spin" of the Republicans - because it is authentically true.

We can only hope the Pubbies and their spokespeople will make that point.

Sorry, Laz, but I think you are wrong. I can already hear Dan, Tom, and Peter saying:

"In a stunning new poll, 46% of the American people blame Mr. (not President, mind you) Bush for the atmosphere of Greed exhibited by his and Mr. Cheney's cronies at big corporations. And the only reason it isn't higher is that most Americans (stupid as they are) were concentrating on their 4th of July celebrations."

We are being molded into something better

Good Lord willing, let it be so. We had a long dark walk through corruption and decadence in the last decade. It eerily reminded me of things I'd read about the Roaring Twenties, and the slide of Europe into decay in the 'thirties.

I may have to watch CNN today just to see Judy Woodruff's face as she reads these numbers.

Don't bother watching that propaganda trash Sweetie, she'll never let these poll results see the light of day.

Thanks for posting that link.

The Bush/Clinton business scandal data is there, but there's also some interesting data about people's perceptions of the congressional Pubs and Dems regarding this issue. What is striking is how much more Americans seem to perceive Bush as being on the side of the "average person" than they do the congressional Republicans. In this category, Bush's numbers are a lot like the congressional Democrats', while the congressional Republicans' numbers are skewed heavily towards the perception that they are on the side of Business. Judging from this data, it looks like the congressional Republicans might have some vulnerability here that the President does not.

A few tidbits:

Wall Street Journal 5/12/99 JOHN J. FIALKA "... Treasury Department employees in January destroyed 162 boxes of old records that may have included files subject to a court order in a suit accusing the government of mishandling Indian trust funds. The Justice Department's lead lawyer in the case, Phillip A. Brooks, admitted the destruction in a letter to Judge Royce C. Lamberth of federal District Court here. The court had ordered the Clinton administration to produce trust-fund documents, and earlier this year Judge Lamberth held both Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt in civil contempt for repeatedly failing to locate and provide all the documents. The case, scheduled for trial in June, has been pending for more than two years.....The destruction was stopped, Mr. Brooks said, and a check of the remaining 245 boxes showed that at least two boxes were from the Interior Department. "We cannot at this time rule out the possibility" that some of the destroyed documents were subject to the court order, he stated in his letter. Dennis Gingold, a lawyer for the Indians, reacted angrily: "I think Mr. Rubin should go to jail for this. This is criminal contempt.".... Mr. Brooks said the boxes of destroyed records covered payments made by various federal agencies during the first half of this century. Another box from the collection "was apparently mislaid" during a transfer operation in 1996, he wrote. "We have opted to err on the side of caution and bring these matters to your attention immediately," Mr. Brooks said in his letter to Judge Lamberth. There was no immediate reaction from the judge, who has been critical of the government's handling of the case. In two separate rulings Tuesday, Alan L. Balaran, a special master appointed by the judge to enforce his orders for documents, ordered the government to provide e-mail as well as other documents that the Justice Department had argued should be withheld under attorney-client privilege.

USA TODAY http://www.usatoday.com/ FreeRepublic http://www.freerepublic.com/ 5/12/99 analysis by A WHITEWATER RESEARCHER, REPORTER "....The forced resignation today of disgraced Clinton Treasury secretary Robert Rubin may have been a result of imminent further exposure of a vast array of corrupt activities, from Treasury's attempted coercion of United States Secret Service agents to lie during their Filegate testimony in 1996 and the agents' criminal prosecution as a result of that testimony, to today's New York Times story "CHINA SENT CASH TO U.S. BANK, WITH SUSPICIONS SLOW TO RISE" ....However, the final straw that broke Rubin's back could well have been a brilliant investigative journalism article by the USA TODAY's Tom Lowry on May 3, 1999, "TRUST SCANDAL HAUNTS GOLDMAN/SULLIED BISHOP ESTATE OWNS 10% OF BANK/HIGHLY PAID TRUSTEES FACING ACCUSATIONS, CHARGES", which was excerpted in a May 5, 1999 FreeRepublic article .... Mr. Lowry exhaustively details the utterly corrupt activities of Hawaii's giant Bishop Estate in general, and a highly suspect transaction between the Bishop Estate and the personal financial account of Robert Rubin in particular. Rubin is also a former chairman of Goldman Sachs and whose Treasury department regulates both the Bishop Estate and Goldman Sachs. Rubin apparently operated at Treasury, regulating both the Bishop Estate and Goldman Sachs, will full awareness of his massive conflicts of interest involving his personal investments, the Treasury department, the Internal Revenue Service, Goldman Sachs, and the Bishop Estate..... "...I am a professional stock market investor myself. ...... For those of you with the Black Scholes model, just set the price of Goldman Sachs at 100, set the expiration date at a year from now of a put option with a strike price of 100, and tell me what you get. I bet that put is worth at least 20, or twenty percent of the value of the underlying stock position. In the case of Rubin's Goldman stock holdings in 1993, the at the money, one year put warrant would be worth at least $20 million annually, not $100,000...... THIS WOULD SUGGEST AN "AT THE MONEY ONE YEAR PUT OPTION" ON RUBIN'S 1993 GOLDMAN SACHS HOLDINGS WAS WORTH WELL OVER $20 MILLION!!! With the value of Rubin's Goldman Sachs holdings appreciating in recent years, the value of the Bishop Estate put on $100 million of underlying Goldman value sold to Rubin would decline, but I think it is fair to say that Rubin, via this put maneuver with the Bishop Estate, a charity, may have received illegal gratuities, in 1993 alone, if he paid only approximately $100,000 for his one year, at the money Goldman put warrant which was in fact worth well over $20 million...."

WorldNetDaily.com 4/20/99 Charles Smith Softwar "...More alarming for the White House is another 1994 computer security document found in the files of former Deputy Attorney General Webster Hubbell. The Hubbell document describes a secret 1994 White House meeting where "Podesta legislation" was one of several computer industry topics. The Hubbell document clearly links the former Whitewater partner and John Podesta in secret computer export policy. Al Gore, Webster Hubbell, John Podesta, FBI Director Louis Freeh and Ron Brown attended the 1994 White House meeting. Secret meetings that include a convicted felon and the former member of the Rose office law firm of Hillary Clinton. Computer-Gate involves serving officials inside the Clinton administration other than John Podesta and Webster Hubbell. Other Clinton officials such as Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and Commerce undersecretary for Export Administration, William Reinsch, were both involved in CSPP meetings that are now classified. Computer-Gate also includes some of the most rich and powerful in the U.S. computer industry DNC donor lists. The 1995 secret meeting included James Unruh of Unisys, Michael Spindler of Apple, Robert Allen of AT&T, Eckhard Pfeiffer of Compaq, John Carlson of Cray, Ronald Skates of Data General, Robert Palmer of Digital Equipment, Lewis Platt of Hewlett-Packard, Edward McCraken of Silcon Graphics, William Foster of Straus Computer, and Scott McNeally of Sun..."

Washington Post 2/26/99 Editorial "...Judge Lamberth on Monday held Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt and Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin in contempt of court for the government's failure over more than two years to produce discovery material related to a class-action lawsuit by a group of Native Americans. The plaintiffs allege that the government mishandled money held in trust on their behalf, and demand an accounting of the trust, a restoration of the true value of the trust accounts and an end to the trust's abuse. Because Judge Lamberth is prone to harsh language, particularly when government conduct is at issue, one may be tempted to read with a certain cynicism statements such as, "The federal government here did not just stub its toe. . . . I have never seen more egregious misconduct by the federal government." Yet the government's conduct in the litigation is, as Judge Lamberth alleges, "a shocking pattern of deception of the court." This is particularly so in light of the gross mismanagement that gave rise to the litigation. This money is not a welfare program but the property of individual Indians, proceeds of the use of land that was allotted to them but held in trust by the federal government.... "

My comment to that was, that not only did the debauched one not like kids, but he corrupted them and infected them with diseases.

Which brings up another subject.
Juanita Broadrick said when she was rapped by Clinton (who never actually denied it), Bill told her not to worry about getting pregnant because he had the mumps as a boy and was sterile.
Now, if he's been sterile since his boyhood, where did Chelsea come from?
These two have a political marrage and Bill has been doing his dirty deeds for years. An article (from WND?) explained how Hillary had hired dectectives just to find the "ladies" Bill messed with and to keep them quiet (see Clinton death list).
I wouldn't put it past these two for one minute to create a child using another just for political reasons. Politicians without at least one child could never speak for the children or families because they aren't parents themselves.
Like a dog, every politician has to have at least one kid, too.

Im shocked I tell you ...shocked!

The only shock here is that Gallup polled for this. Normally they would design the question so there was no way people could identify Klintoon as the culprit.
