To me, one of the reasons why the Elizabeth Smart case is getting such broad nationwide coverage is because the manner in which she disappeared...that was true in the Polly Klass case and also true in the Danielle VanDame case...

In all three of these cases, these girls were abducted from their own homes....people like to believe that they and their children are safe in their own homes...and this scares people very much...you warn your children about being careful on the streets, on the way to school, you caution them to beware of strangers offering them rides, beware of strange cars following them, etc, etc, etc...

But how do you warn them, that their own home is no longer safe? That is much more difficult, and scarey for parents and children alike...

There was also that little girl baby, abducted, I think from Florida....altho in this case, I know the parents are under suspicion, altho they maintain that their baby was stolen from their home...

I live in Western Washington, so we have been hearing more news of those two girls who disappeared in Oregon...and I am sure, that in every state, there are many missing and abducted children, who do not make the national news, but remain local stories....

But when a child is taken right out of his/her own home, this naturally becomes more spectacular for the news media, because the audacity and boldness of the abduction is so glaring...that is not ever to say, that any one missing child is more important than any other missing child...

But I think that the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, will only highlight other cases of other missing children...

I still try to maintain hope in my heart that Elizabeth Smart is still alive, ,but the longer it goes on with no news of her, the more pessimistic I become...

Still I do pray daily for her safe return, and pray for her family to remain strong for her, is that most dreadful time of all their lives...

Why would stories I find important contain graphic pictures and profanity? Why do I need to get a life? I suspect if we compare the number of posts I make each day on here, versus the number you and many others here make, your advice would be better spent on yourself. There's really no need to get so nasty. It really only tells me that I've hit the nail on the head and you're going to whine now because I've exposed a dirty little secret. Most people are sheep who will find interest in virtually any story the media drums on long enough. I know it's a hard fact to face, but that's the Television media's job- ratings. Everything else is secondary.

I care. I care so much that I am puzzled by the bizzare and quasi-morbid fascination everyone seems to have with this one girl, all because the media incessantly pounds on the proverbial drum. If people were really that concerned they would start a missing children thread, broken down by state, discussing all the known cases instead of feeding into the media's continual distortion of public opinion.
