(Sierra Vista, AZ) Reports from unnamed informants within the U.S. Border Patrol describe an incident which occurred on July 2nd at a checkpoint 20 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. Sources say that a number of illegals were spotted by Border Patrol agents moving through the desert in an apparent attempt to go around a permanent checkpoint located on State Route 90 just 12 miles north of Sierra Vista, Arizona. It was surmised by the agents that these illegals had been dropped off from a smuggler’s vehicle a few miles south of the checkpoint and were going to meet back up with the smuggler vehicle a few miles north after circumventing the checkpoint. From there, the illegals would have been driven to Interstate Highway 10 and taken to points unknown. This sort of activity is a common occurrence at this checkpoint.
The illegals were apprehended by the Border Patrol and taken into custody. It was determined that among the group was one Yemeni national and several Mexicans. When questioned, the Yemeni national said that he had been among a group of six Yemenis who had earlier crossed the border together. The report of the five additional Yemeni intruders caused the Border Patrol to dispatch a helicopter from Tucson (approximately 70 miles northwest) to the checkpoint. In addition, it is reported that U.S. Customs dispatched a helicopter to the area of the apprehension to conduct a search from the air. The Yemenis were not found and may still be at large. Sources say that the FBI was notified but that the level of FBI interest and/or involvement is not known at this time.
These same sources report that U.S. Border Patrol Agent in charge of the Tucson Sector, David Aguilar, has ordered his agents to keep quiet about this incident. Reportedly, Aguilar has issued several such gag orders recently – demanding that Border Patrol agents keep quiet about happenings along the border. In June, Aguilar spoke at the annual convention of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and told of the government’s humanitarian responsibility to protect Mexican citizens who are illegally crossing into the United States (See Washington Times - June 27). As evidence of Aguilar’s confusion about the Border Patrol’s mission, he recently redeployed his agents away from the border itself and has instead deployed them into the larger desert areas to rescue illegals found to be in distress. It is also reported that Aguilar has ridiculously attempted to explain away the trails of footprints, garbage, and trail markings left by the hordes of illegals crossing through private, state, and federal lands as instead being evidence of the area’s new popularity to hikers and campers because of the success of the Border Patrol at apprehending and stopping the illegals.

I did find that there was a guy named David Aguilar who was born in Waco (or something like that) who was shot by FBI agents on his own property in a botched raid. But he's dead - not the same guy.

That whole Sierra Vista/Bisbee/Tombstone area is just amazing country. Dragoon mtns, Mule mountain from Sierra Vista to Bisbee and Cochise's hideout in the mountains I won't try to misspell. We've hiked all around there, hit the old bars and eaten some of the best Mexican food in the states.

One of my favorite stories from Bisbee is the time John Wayne and Lee Marvin were staying at the old Copper Queen hotel. Got way too drunk and had a pissing contest off the balcony of one of the suites.
There's another fine old hotel in Douglas with a big oak winding staircase that Zapata rode his horse up on one of their raids into US. You can still see some of the old bullet holes from that raid. Fascinating history as well as beauty in that area.
We had an interesting trip via rental car through the Coronado Forest almost all the way down along the border to the Highway to Nogales one Sunday.
We took a rental Chevy Beretta places I'd never go in a personal car... we finally stopped and walked into one circa 1950s ghost town on a mountain when we saw a Range Rover on the way out scrape his oil pan and trail oil behind him...

I pinged all of you to let you know that I have confirmed this apprehension. The Border Patrol did indeed apprehend one Yemeni’s national on July 2nd at the location that Spiff mentions.

The apprehension was recorded in an INS computer system. The funny thing about this apprehension and it's record in the system, is it's lack of information. The other 150+ records for that day are complete, but this one record mysteriously is missing some key apprehension information.
This leads me to believe that Mr. Aguilar may be ordering the Agents to hold back information about this incident.
Anyway, the apprehension did take place and if this Yemeni’s national is telling the truth, then would do have five more on the loose.
But just between you and me, I would ask Admod to pull your post and my reply, because.. frankly it's a little public. I mean, some people might not appreciate you making this information public and others might have a chip on their sholder about the WOT, the US or illigeals in general.
I would hate to see you pay for this with your job.

Just so you know - I'm the one who designed that ad and composed most of its content (all except for the biography portion). Behnke independently verified much of the information in the ad himself. He has his own sources. There was other content we wanted to put there, but our information was not strong enough to run with it in a such an ad. Suffice it to say, we had no doubt about the Yemeni intruder issue at all as we confirmed it with several sources.
