A native of Egypt. Why does this not surprise me?

What do you wanna bet that the reaction of British universities would have been slightly different if it had been a native of Israel who sacked a couple of Egyptians because of their nationality?
To: cake_crumb
She sure has a pinched and nasty look to her. Is this take correct?
And read how Ms. Egypt dumped the liberal Israeli gal who belonged to Amnesty International and criticized Israel.

There is a large intimidation machine out there which is waiting to intimidate anyone that it doesnt approve of. This is classic. She must have studied under "Hillary!" I love it when these guys were fired because she didn't approve of their nationality, and then she complains about the intimidation machine against people they don't approve of. Is this a VJWC (Vast Jewish Wing Conspiricy?)
Spinmeisters have gotten fantastic at being able to do something and complain about it in the same breath. Remember Hillary!'s "We've got to stop the blame game like we had during the last 12 years of Reagan-Bush'?

"intimidation machine"
This, in leftist talk, means criticism of one of their views. Reveals how they feel speech is a political tool, rather than a right or virtue.

The dismissals raised no public opposition from within British universities. Typical. Bloody friggin' typical.
I would expect nothing more from the slime that inhabit the universities over there.

Looks like it is time to begin an email campaign to her publishers. Boycott Mona Baker.
To: dennisw
My email...
Dear Prof. Baker,
I read an article about you in The Telegraph. I wanted to laud you for sacking the two Israelis from the editorial board of your journals. Inspired by your example, I have decided to sack all Egyptian nationals who work for my company. I disagree with how Mubarek is running things, so clearly, this is the proper course of action.
Thank you so much for your sterling example.
Deutchland uber alles,

Shitty little leftists in the university. The helpmates for Jihad and Jew killing. F 'em! Shlesinger was the chairman of Amnesty International in Israel and her defender, Prof Greenblatt of Havard, is the president of the Modern Language Association of America.
Only way those two could go further left would be to join the Communist party.
I suggest we all sit back and enjoy the show. Anyone of thse people would censor a conservative in a heart beat--if they let one into their universities to begin with.
To: meyer
If something like this happened at my university, Penn State, there would be a massive outcry. In fact, I dare say it could not happen at Penn State.

"And read how Ms. Egypt dumped the liberal Israeli gal who belonged to Amnesty International and criticized Israel"Yep...she's pinched, and she's nasty. I guess sacking the left wing Amnesty International girl only proves once and for all that ...appeasement doesn't work.
To: Antoninus
Excellent point!
"Dr Shlesinger, a respected American-born academic at the Bar-Ilan University near Tel Aviv, is also a former chairman of Amnesty International in Israel and has criticised her countrys policies in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip."
Here's another lesson. It doesn't matter how leftwing you are or how much you kiss their backsides, they'll hate you for what you are, not what you do, believe or think. You're Israeli, Jewish or American, you deserve to die. That's what Osama Bin Laden said.

Baker and her researchers discovered that two translations of the same text are never the same. Just as researchers have different perspectives and explanations on the same material, translators are no different. This is the interpretation of the thing: NSS.

Don't expect any effect though. Routledge is one of the biggest commie presses on the planet.

My e-mail to Ms. Egypt was not so nice. I called her Jihadist slut. I feel terrible and promise not to do this again.
