....and I wonder why she felt she had to appear impartial?.. and I wonder why she was so naive to expect anything else from her so called friends?.. She got what she deserved. I would have invited all the blankety blanks to leave.

Otto: Don't call me stupid.
Wendy Leach (Maria Aitken): Why on earth not?
Otto: Oh you English are so superior aren't you? Well would you like to know where you would be without us, the old U.S. of A to protect you? The smallest fucking province in the Russian empire. So don't call me stupid lady.
Wendy: Well thank you for popping in protecting us.

That could be because it was written for a British publication. But you may be on to something: I've never heard of an Alabama style chocolate cake. You wanna talk Red Velvet cake, you've got my attention!

I believe that they are surprised that Americans would have the guts to say anything. We just want everyone to love us. I say what I think now on every issue and why not? I step aside for their point of view and they can for mine.

Here's a quote you might find interesting from here:

IN ONE OF HIS FAMOUS SPEECHES Churchill asked America 'Give us the tools and we will finish the job'. But America wouldn't 'give' anything without payment. After two years of war, Roosevelt had drained Britain dry, stripping her of all her assets in the USA, including real estate and property. The British owned Viscose Company, worth £125 million was liquidated, Britain receiving only £87 million. Britain's £1,924 million investments in Canada were sold off to pay for raw materials bought in the United States. To make sure that Roosevelt got his money, he dispatched the American cruiser, 'Louisville ' to the South African naval base of Simonstown to pick up forty two million Pounds worth of British gold, to help pay for American guns and ammunition!.Not content with stripping Britain of her gold and assets, Roosevelt now proceeded to 'strip the flesh off the bone'. In return for 50 old destroyers, he demanded that Britain transfer all her scientific and technological secrets to the USA. (American science had been lagging years behind the British at this stage). Also, he demanded leases on the islands of Newfoundland, Jamaica, Trinidad and Bermuda for the setting up of American military and naval bases in case Britain should fall.

QUOTE. Lord Beaverbrook was later to exclaim 'The Japanese are our relentless enemies, and the Americans our un-relenting creditors'.

I know that FDR hated the British Empire and saw WWII as a way to finish it off, just as WWI had seriously weakened it, a war which the USA deliberately stayed out of for as long as possible. However, I am sure that many freedom loving Americans did wish to help Britain and not just strip its assets. For example: the NRA was kind enough to ask its members to provide any guns they could spare to allow the British people to defend themselves against a German invasion. Thank you for that NRA.

"... Bless your little cotton socks! You just go on believing that, if it keeps you happy."

Heheh... For those that don't get it, Euros laugh at American tourists for our white cotton socks.

Even funnier is that Euros are often seen wearing brown polyester socks with sandals, or even worse, fancy dress socks with American Nike athletic shoes.

Very amusing. That is a quote from 'A fish called Wanda' isn't it? But what is the opinion of a fictional spook turned gangster supposed to prove?

You may want to take a course in world history and then get back to your brit "friends."

Nonetheless, it could be worthwhile if we took their advice which comes from their own failed worldwide exploits in the past to just care of ourselves for awhile...

Most of what you say is great. However it is debatable whether or not Britain and the USSR would have defeated Hitler if the US hadn't entered the war. I'm a serious student of WWII and I believe that the Nazis would have prevailed had the US not supported, then entered the war. The US was supplying a great deal of material before Pearl Harbor such as tanks, food, planes, destroyers, etc. The US did lose almost 1 million men as well. I don't think there is any question that the US has shouldered the free world's defense burden since WWII as well as rebuilding Germany, Japan, and much of Europe. Please remember that the US citizens have spent a great deal of money on these bases to which you refer, and Europe's defense. You are so right about the leftist, liberal press. I think our common heritage means that most Brits and Americans really do like each other and the vocal minority are the ones who get the attention.

Also note that Russia and Germany were allies and divided Poland. Hitler then turned on Stalin. Without US and British help to Russia and the threat of a second front with the US and Britain, Hitler could have fought at least to a standstill - until he had the atomic bomb. So, I think it's accurate to say that the US's involvement in WWII before and after Pearl Harbor made the difference. But, without Churchill and the British fight, it would have been a lost cause for all of us. I vote for Churchill as the man of the century!

Parody: 1. A literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule.

I know that FDR hated the British Empire...

He didn't much care for American capitalists either. At least the British are honorable, pay off their debts and are loyal as poodles. At least George Michael seems to think so.

Well if you think about it, Hitler was right about the Versailles Treaty. Of course that didn't excuse him for starting WWII and the Holocaust.

I'm genuinely sorry we were your "unrelenting creditors" after WWII. It never fails: those who are self-reliant, strong and courageous always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop, as American icon Marilyn Monroe once observed. The weaklings (think France, think Italy) are never forced to pay up. That being said, I don't think that is upper-most in mind when British people insult Americans at cocktail...er...small drinks parties.

Wouldn't it have been interesting if the Iron Curtain = English Channel for forty or fifty years.

Re: British spelling. She is writing for a British paper. She may or may not have adapted her spelling for publication. If she didn't, the editors would have done it. If she claims to be an American, the spelling would not necessarily indicate the truth or untruth of that statement.

Maybe if the Brits had tried to help Poland in her hour of need perhaps it never would have come down to the US having to bail them out.
