Thanks for the pings, brigette! My feeling is that this case was mishandled from the beginning (thank you, Uncle Tom) and the police are still scratching their heads. Can't understand why the parents didn't employ a high-powered attorney and PI immediately. Oops, Uncle Tom. It's my opinion that the family has an idea who the abductor is - but, maybe not.

Sounds like you bought into the Marc Klaas theory. Uncle Tom is only a photographer for the Deseret News - a career that hasn't made him either wealthy or influential. The purported influence that Klaas claimed that Tom had on the family is a myth. Klaas claimed that Tom had thwarted his efforts to get Boylan involved as the sketch artist. It is not a stretch to assume that the police/FBI thought of a sketch artist all by themselves and may have even involved one - without any success - in all likelyhood because the perp was wearing a ski mask or stocking over his face. Klaas claimed it was Tom who kept the sketch from being drawn. The police/FBI do not need the uncle's or even the parents permission to involve a sketch artist in a case with an eye witness in a federal crime.

The Smart family chose to work with the Laura Foundation from Texas - in part because Klaas was acting as less then an honest broker i.e. his contract with Fox News gave him an agenda other than finding Elizabeth.

I first read this theory in a post here on FR I think, it was attributed to FBI Profiler Clint Van Zandt who has been discussing the case on O'reilly Factor.

I saw the Van Zandt interview and he seemed to indicate that the mechanic put a nail in Ricci's coffin. There was another detective on the other night though from the D.C. Cops who is a real light-wieght compared to Van Zandt.

As I understand it, Tom is photo editor, a big step up from photographer. And he lives in Moose Hollow, a gated community in the Park City area with homes $1M and up. (It's too bad Edward's neighborhood isn't gated.)

What the cops need sooo badly is some strong trace or DNA evidence in or on the Jeep, a muddy shoe imprint from Liz's shoe soles inside the Jeep, fibers off her red satin Pj's, unusual blood pattern that match's Liz's DNA... etc.

Dr. Henry Lee said tonight if they had found fiber evidence in the Jeep it would be analyzed by now and an arrest would have been made. However he said it takes about 2 weeks to get DNA evidence and I thought I read about 2 weeks ago they had found some blood in the jeep.

I think with them taking in the man with Ricci when he turned in the Jeep the case will be blown wide open early next week. I think he is the kidnapper and Ricci's coconspirator and they've finally decided it was the right time and brought him in. I think it's about over as far as the criminals involved though they very possibly still don't know where Elizabeth is. Note the last paragraph in this article:

Your first theory is out of the question since Moul has already stated that Ricci picked up the Jeep and was never at the shop May 30 to June 5.

My point was Moul blew it when the cops came out and instead of telling them the Jeep had been there all the time like he was supposed to he panicked and told them the truth, about Ricci picking it up then bringing it back. In fact Moul might have cut a deal where he gets less charges for turning in the others.

That depends on when he bought the home. Fifteen years you could have bought up much of Park City for a Mil. It also depends on whether Ed built the house for him. What I am trying to say, and probably not very well, is that while the property may be worth that now, it probably cost him a fraction of that.

The police didn't need MK for the sketch, the milkman, the alleged security video taken a few minutes before the kidnapping, the hospital security man, Moul, and possibly the guy that said he saw him a few days after the kidnapping (though his story was discredited) could have combined for a pretty good picture, they were all the same description and I think the same person, 5'8", white, dark hair, clean shaven, wearing a white baseball hat, 30's, etc.

If the Smarts' residence is not a gated area do you know why they say in reference to certain potential suspects they were someone who had access to the area?

The police said that Moul was a credible witness. This could be because his account was the same as other individuals at the shop. It would not be neccessary to have all individuals appear before the Grand Jury unless there was some doubt that needed to be cleared up. What Angela said to the GJ may not coincide with her statements to the press. There is so much that we just don't know because it hasn't been released to the press.

No, from the news I have read, Elizabeth was excited to start running, she had never done this before, and it was something new in her life. From the accounts I have heard, she went running/joggin twice, and took Mary Katherine with her. Not an uncommon occurrence, girls run in pairs now for safety.

Kind of like the JonBenet Ramsey family did? Didn't the parents take four months to be interviewed by the police, and they had their lawyers there? And to be honest, how did Tom Smart cause the police to mishandle the investigation? I'm with you on the private investigator though, I'd never thought of that option.

Without forensic evidence to tie the jeep to the abduction then all we have is...nothing really. All of Ricci's suspicious behaviour is circumstantial. So far no smoking gun.

Help me out here. Why is "somebody" lying? That's what I'm getting at. Who is saying that anyone is lying at the repair shop? What was said that indicates someone is lying?

The way I read the article was they were looking for the man that supposedly helped him tow it in on May 30, they wondered if it was the same man that picked him up on Jun 8, and they were questioning a man who may have been with him when he returned the Jeep on Jun 8. I took this as a coy way of saying they have the coconspirator, the 5'8" kidnapper. I think this is the guy and only he and Ricci did it, I think the others are there under threat of being sent back to the can for parole violation to tell what they know or have heard about the kidnapping, to give Ricci and the other guy up or go back to jail. This certainly doesn't answer the question yet of where Elizabeth is.

Excellent point, unless the police have already learned that not all of the pieces fit. We already know that Moul was too far away from whoever picked up Ricci to identify him.
