That precise exchange seemed very odd to me. Also this family, unlike the Klass' or the Levys, seem so emotionally disconnected. They sit close, hold hands, but they seem like a bunch of robots. They're too calm. Is it their faith? I have my doubts.

okay....so if you were faced with a child kidnapping and possible murder ,would you NOT give up that you just planted or harvested a crop of weed?

what ever he was covering up can not be as bad a mess as he is in now/

about the child kidnappings.....a person could conceivably want a blond child but Lizzie was not a little child who is going to forget who she is, where she came from, etc..wouldn't they ususally go for really little ones, so they can be brainwashed?

however, if it was for purely exploitation for a s/m or pedophilia type activity....well, that is almost unthinkable....

I just remembered something about the coach. He was the track coach at the high school (East High, I think.) Elizabeth had just graduated from middle school, so the first time she met the coach would have been when she picked up the instructions for running this summer to be in shape to be on the track team. She had only been out training twice before her abduction, so the track coach is almost certainly out of the picture...

Regarding your observations of the family.

With the exchange between them and Larry King, I've been thinking, (dangerous I know!)

Anyway...

My guess is they know who the perp is. MK was able to give a more detailed description. They've got Ricci held on other charges not only because he deserves to be held for burglary, but to give the perp confidence. The police continue picking up and questioning other trailer park residents all the while keeping a tail on the perp.

They believe there is a strong possibility that Elizabeth is still alive, based on who they believe took her. The perp is laying low, but eventually he will go back to check on her. She's locked up somewhere, but has food/water.

They're cleaning up the trailer park while they're at it!

Look at the timeline though. ES kidnapped on Jun 5, Ricci being interviewed for potential kidnapping on Jun 6, Ricci drives 500 miles to plant a crop of weed on Jun 7 and returns 500 miles on Jun 8 all muddy??

That's right. The most telling remark during the entire session with Larry King tonight was the comment (by Elizabeth's mother, I think) that it will be impossible for whoever took Elizabeth to have a life with her (paraphrasing).

That sure suggests the family at least has an inkling who did the deed and believes she is safe, but being held somewhere. Also suggests they do not believe it is anyone on the list of suspects now in custody or other names already in the news.

Probably because they don't want to scare him into harming the girl if he feels he's backed into a corner.

In the Larry King family interview the father said that he had tried to figure out who might have done this and can not. Other family members indicated the same. I believe that there belief that Elizabeth is still alive is base soley on their faith. Mormons have a very strong belief in prayer and it appears that so far their praying has left them feeling she is still alive.

Nothing new on the news tonight. I even watched KUTV news, they just reiterated their story from a 'source from the SLPD' that Ricci will be charged in a few days with burglary and more. They also interviewed Angela Ricci, who said why would she want to do anything that would take her away from her 11 year old son?

KUTV also interviewed Larry King, I forgot he was in Provo for the festivities (his wife is from Provo.) I didn't see the interview this evening on his show, but he thinks the reason the Elizabeth Smart abduction has caught the nation's attention is because she is white, beautiful, family is well-to-do, the community, and their faith.

With this entire strange story, that's the only thing that makes any sense. It explains the parent's calm demeanor. It explains the MK saw the perp, but didn't see the perp story. It explains why the police are playing this story, more than I have ever seen, so extremely close to the vest.

Usually as much info as possible is out right away to try to help find the perp in a kidnapping case.

They held back lots of details right from the beginning.

That's the impression I have from the Smart family interviews. They feel that she is still alive because they have such strong faith. I don't think they know who took their daughter either.
