El Al Pilot Reported Missile Explosion Next to Plane

(IsraelNN.com) An El Al pilot reported what appeared to be a surface-to-air missile exploding next to a flight. The plane was heading from Tel Aviv to Russia. The flight landed without incident in Moscow.

El Al officials reported with certainty the plane was not in military airspace, but in a regular international commercial lane.

I have always been exceedingly suspicious about that "accident" where a missile, said to be off-course, hit an El Al plane over Russia. Not long after Sept 11.

Wasn't an El Al plane, but rather a charter airline (don't recall the name). Think it was actually Russian flag, but could have been Israeli.

As far as I can recall, that was a Russian airliner that was flying out of Israel, but your point stands. Seems like some chaotic air-space in eastern europe.

Does anyone know where they plane was at the time? I believe that traffic out of Israel flies over "PA territory", and of course over the int'l waters of the Med. Then it may go over Turkey and eastern Europe to get to Moscow. Not sure if it flies over the Muslim provinces of the former USSR.

As I see it, the bad guys see these type of targets as both physical and psychological. Basically, if they are successful (esp. in a plane), there will be a large number of victims. Also, since a much larger proportion of the population has some type of 'fear' of flying, they can incite this rather easily.

On one of the Israeli sites it was mentioned that the plane was around the city of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.

The plane which was shot down shortly after 9/11 was reported to be downed by a Ukranian missile.

Two accidents do make a pattern...
