In Jerusalem, Israeli Transport Minister Efraim Sneh said the shooting spree was believed to be a "terrorist attack."

Sneh said there was no clear information on the identity of the gunman but added: "Organisations, primarily Islamic extremist organisations, are planning to hit Israeli targets outside (the Jewish state). And an airport is a preferred target.
