Columbia, Missouri group FReeps the peaceniks weekly! (pictures included)
6-30-02

Posted on 06/30/2002 5:59:02 PM PDT by mtngrl@vrwc

I wanted to share with you an email that I got from one of the members of a group of dedicated, patriotic FReepers from Columbia, Missouri who gather each and every week to counter-protest the peaceniks in their area. Here is what the email says:

"We in Missouri support your efforts in Fresno. Here are a few photos of our June 29th counter-protest in Columbia. Please use them as a solidarity message from us to you.

The peaceniks here love their trite messages, so we had prepared a few signs in anticipation. One draw-back is that they insist on having "dialogue" with us, and then think that we care if they agree with our signs or not. It makes for some frustrating encounters with the nitwit crew.

You will notice that these folks are old enough to know better. Many of our college students are not supportive of them, but their professors are! I guess that back in the 60's they must have dropped out, tuned out, turned on, and now there is no turning them off.

Somewhere along the line the protesters decided that we must stay within their rules for protesting. Rule #1 is not to counter-protest them. Now, how does one counter a protest if there is not a protest to counter? Rule #2, our signs have to be nice, or pass their approval. NOT! Rule #3 seems to be that we have to like them and appreciate their dedication to peace at any price.

Well, we don't. We appreciate those who have and are serving in our military, and we believe Americans must stick together to combat evil regimes.

So, Thank You Jim Rob, Fresno, FReepers, and Service People. We stand with America!

-Love,
BlueSageWoman"

Ok; the goofy looking gomer with straw cowboy hat and the "In the name of God . . " sign is Dogrobber. The "We Love our Soldiers" babe is a daughter in Law. The "Honk for Peace" man is Mark Haim, the head man of the local peace-nuts group - MidMissouri Peaceworks. He is a really committed peace wacko.

Freeper Zip holds the flag and Bluesagewoman, ever mindful of the camera, hides behind signs. The next piture has three of Haim's peace-nuts, a sorrier bunch has not seen the light of day. The final piture of the original group is, again, Freeper Zip.

The lone picture posted is College Republican Babe Ashley. Ashley really brought energy to the Freeps and attracted much in the way of loose young males. She just had a way of whooping and hollering.

We Freep on weekly.

Absolutely fantastic signs. We have been FReeping away down here in Houston the last few weeks. We counter protested the commies protesting Bush#41's speech, Jim the rat Jeffords fundraiser at a Houston fatcat's house, and last Friday, LULAC had their convention here. Of course The FReepers were there, protesting against illegal immigration. BTW we were in full costume, so check the Texas posts. If you don't mind, in the future we will use some of your signage. Wait 'till the local FReepers see the thumbs up for America sign.

I love Columbia, Mo. It's looks like the photos were taken from the entrance to the University. Would you know?

Ouch!

Looks like someone only partially succeeded in rehydrating the freeze-dried flower children from the Berkeley time capsule. :)

These people look old enough to remember WWI and WWII.

Too bad that they don't remember the Crusades.

I was at the Museum Of Fine Arts today in Houston and they currently have an exhibit of gold encrusted and jeweled antiquities from India. First thing I see is a historical description of the "influence" of Islam on India. It described a number of "raids" (their word, not mine) to spread Islam. The invading armies were from what today is Afghanistan. There didn't seem to be any notes to condemn the "raids". These raids occurred from 800AD to 1200AD.

Ever see an exhibit of the "influence" of the Spaniards on Native American art?

they were taken at the post office on walnut, and by the parking lot across the street -- a block or so from the tribune building at 104 north fourth. i used to be a reporter for it.

btw, speaking of the tribune, the sports editor of the tribune was beaten to death by person(s) unknown in the parking lot of the tribune, right next to its building, a few months ago.

Is it being speculated that it was random meaning Columbia has gotten dangerous or that it was personal?

This is great, mtngrl! Thanks for the ping!

Think maybe I saw a couple of these beauties protesting in Madison, Wisconsin, in the 60's. Haven't they seen the light yet? Sheesh....

nobody seems to have the slightest clue . . . . . meaning that the columbia p.d. hasn't changed. they were clueless when paul cheavens was chief, too, though i liked him. and that was 30 years ago. anyway, based on the reports i can find online -- the tribune having gone to hell in a hankbasket -- nobody has the slightest idea why the guy was whacked. he did seem to be pretty beloved to one and all, but then again there are relatively few obits that say "so and so, hated by many, is dead." this guy does seem to have been genuinely liked, though.
