LOS ANGELES (AP) - More than 30 black lawmakers, civic and religious leaders promised to fight secession efforts by the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood, saying a breakaway would reduce black clout.
Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, D-Culver City, said Friday the anti-secession message will be spread to black voters from churches and union halls. The campaign also will register blacks to vote in time for secession balloting Nov. 5.

Beverly Hills is indeed a separate city. Back in the mid-1970s I did some very interesting economic analysis of parts of the LA area including BH, looking at the extent to which tax rates and per pupil expenditures in the schools (as a proxy for school quality - test score information wasn't available) influenced housing prices. I was able to get some serial data over about 15 years on a couple of neighborhoods where part was in Bev Hills, part in LA county (unincorporated) adjacent. In Bev Hills, the tax rates were lower, per pupil expenditures higher, and, of course, housing prices for essential identical structures were much higher. IIRC, I could explain about 85% of the difference in housing prices with the difference in the capitalized tax burden and the difference in per pupil spending. Obvious conclusion that the statistics supported: people prefer good schools and low taxes, all other things being equal, to poorer schools and higher taxes.

Actually, the split should increase Black clout. They'd be a larger proportion of the City of Los Angeles, than they are now. True. But this is not about political clout in the City of Los Angeles. This is about Money.
Once the San Fernando Atlas shrugs, the Los Angeles politicians will no longer be able to spend San Fernando's money.

Can someone please explain to me why you would want to force someone to remain with you when neither of you can tolerate the other anymore? See Post #43.
The answer is Money.

Imagine, a situation where all the affected parties have a voice in the outcome. Jefferson Davis must be spinning in his grave.

It's understandable that this issue hasn't gotten the attention of our friends in the socialist news media. After all, here we have a situation where white liberals are shutting down the racial gravy train. They're actually demanding (gasp!) secession to end the racial shakedown of... "Progressives!"
It's almost too much to believe, and the effect on the liberal brain must be akin to a thermonuclear bomb detonated in an old-growth forest.

The white plantation owners in the Antebellum South said they didn't want their plantations split apart, either. Today in LA county it is the blacks who are the masters and the whites who labor as their slaves If that is the case, can I sue for reparations for my tax-dollars funding Maxine Waters' district?

Imagine a situation resolved by legal means without resorting to use of arms? Abraham Lincoln would exclaim "You Pansies"!

I doubt that Lincoln would have used exactly those words, but it is interesting to speculate what might have happened if the south did not choose war. You might be an independent country today.

"Black Leaders"?
Who died and made these clowns the unelected leaders of the black race? If I were black, I would be upset at the notion that these race-baiting, hate-spreading, crying-victim prostitutes were somehow my "leaders". I'd definitely be looking for a divorce.
To: Mensch
If these guys were real leaders, they would be saying to themselves, "What is it about our people that make others want to move away? Maybe we should pay more attention to upgrading the morals and self-discipline of our own community. Maybe we should work more on addressing our problems of illegitimacy, crime, and underachievement in education. Then other poeple would
want to live near us, they would view us as good and valued neighbors, businesses would
want our workers, we wouldn't be such a drain on taxpayers and government resources, etc."
When will that kind of an attitude return (it was there once, long ago) in the "black community"?

Not to worry, to everything there is a season. Perhaps we will have our independence one day. Hopefully without having to kill another few hundred thousand Yankee tyrants.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on that.

Listen to what you are saying, black leaders!!! You are saying that your community can't make it unless you suck off of the Valley's teat!!
Some way to "lead" the people in your community, by telling them they are helpless and need to rely on the money of others.

And what is this Black Clout, if it relies on taxes from others??? I would be HUMILIATED if I were black to have any of these morons insinuate themselves as my leader!

A parasite needs a host in order to survive.Therein lies the rub. The flow of tax dollars from the Valley to South LA would most certainly be stemmed in such an arrangement. The current situation is liberalism (ala Robin Hood) at its essence- take from the rich and give to the poor, irresponsible, ungrateful, and indignant.
Long prosper Camelot (one of the names being bandied about for the Valley)!

FYI. According to a black (oops...African American) gal pal, they prefer to be called African Americans.
