Some people may consider today to actually be day 26, but I count 1 day for each
24 hours that have passed since Elizabeth was kidnapped. Elizabeth was taken from her home
at about 1:30am on the morning of June 5th, 2002.

Short Timeline

May 30th, 2002 -Thursday
~ Ricci returns to pick up his Jeep at the auto repair shop before the shop has a chance to fully fix it
He tells the repairman that it needed for an emergency.

June 4th, 2002 - Tuesday
~ Ricci is at work from about 9am to 5:30pm
~ Ricci claims he spends the evening with friends

June 5th, 2002 - Wednesday
~ 1:05am - 2 cars are spotted on the SLC Shriner's Hospital Parking Lot by a hospital security guard
~ 1:30am (approx) - Elizabeth is kidnapped from her home
~ 1:30am - Ricci claims to be in bed asleep with his with wife.
~ Ricci is scheduled to be off work all day today.
~ 8:30am - Ricci and his neighbor talk about the kidnapping of Elizabeth, Ricci seems to know too much information about it.
~ Sometime during this day Ricci is visited by police in regards to Elizabeth's kidnapping as reported by Angela Ricci (Richard A. Ricci's Wife which is an ex-convict herself)
~ Ricci is seen by his neighbor digging a hole by his (Ricci's) trailer early in the morning. (heard the neighbor say this on TV)

June 6th, 2002 - Thursday
~ Ricci is scheduled to work from 9am to 5:30pm today, but instead works from 10:30am to 7:00pm
~ Police talk to Ricci this day about the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping. (The media is reporting this, so it could be wrong)

June 8th, 2002 - Saturday
~ Ricci returns the Jeep to the repair shop to get it fix. The Jeep is muddy and the repair shop owner sees Ricci
remove seat covers from the back of the jeep and place them into a plastic garbage bag that already contains
other stuff in it. Also the repair shop owner said a muddy post hole digger tool was in the back of the Jeep, Ricci removes
this also from the Jeep. Ricci has a man waiting across the street to give him a ride. Ricci takes the plastic bag
and contents along with the post hole digger with him. Also there is 500 to 1000 extra miles on the Jeep since
Ricci picked it up on May 30th, 2002.

June 14th, 2002 - Friday
~ Ricci is taken into custody for a parole violation, this being the 2001 robbery of the Smart Home in which he admitted to.



A note to the people who read this thread because they hope and pray that Elizabeth will be returned to her family and who wish to stay up to date with the facts in the case. Please do not let yourself get sucked into a heavy HEATED discussion or argument from someone who wishes to come on this thread and make posts that will disrupt this thread. volunteers will spend the weekend searching in Bountiful, Centerville and Draper for any trace of the girl.

Where's that and why are they looking there?

Centerville is where the stolen plates from Edmunds car were found, Draper is the area of a lot of new homes and construction, don't know why they are searching Bountiful, except that communities are still searching areas.

I think the police are waiting for forensics to come back with information about the items taken from Ricci's car and trailer. The police have to look at Ricci, there are waaaaay too many coincidences. I don't think he abducted Elizabeth, I do believe though that Ricci contributed knowledge of the home to whoever took her...

I don't know about the track coach, Utah is pretty careful to screen their teachers for that type of thing.

You have a great holiday also this week. I'm on vacation, we have a family cabin up east of Heber (about 45 minutes east of SLC), I plan on going up for a few days this week and vegging out. I'm going to read and cook, and walk. No computer and an unlisted phone number, sounds like heaven to me. :)

Actually, if I remember correctly, the police did not originally say "Someone trusted by Elizabeth". They said, "A trusted member of the community".

I don't know if they've restated it or not, but Ricci would hardly qualify as a trusted member of the community.

Ok....lets look at the options on how there would be blood evidence...cut himself on the screen, bit by Elizabeth struggling....did police ever say if a knife was missing in the kitchen?...then he would had to have his own to cut the screen.

My I now start rolling me eyes? The Mormon church stopped Boylan from coming to SLC to do a sketch of the abductor? Why? I'm LDS, and I want Elizabeth to come home. IF (and that is a huge IF) someone in the Smart family is responsible, it will be horrible. But how would the Mormon church's image be besmirched, other than a criminal used the church to shield himself? Believe you me, if that happens, that person will wish he never did that.

As far as Marc Klaas goes, there are two schools of thinking. I don't really care one or the other if the family doesn't want Boylan to sketch the perps face. What I do care about is Klaas going on TV and blasting the family for not taking his advice, and insintuating that they are like Susan Smith, "because Susan Smith is the only one to turn down Boylan's offer to come sketch the perp's face." That is what I object to, that and the fact that Klaas needs to make clear if he is there as a reporter or someone trying to help the family find a lost child. Sorry, but he can't have it both ways.

Starting with such a large pool of potential suspects, resources are spread pretty thin, but as the police are able to eliminate people from the pool, certain individuals start to draw more attention as they are unable to eliminate them. If Ricci is not involved the police are wasting alot of resources on him. Of course, even so, if they should finally determine he is not involved, that is progress in the investigation. One more potential suspect eliminated.

I think you are grasping at straws with this. The mechanic said a woman called saying it was an emergency and they needed the car. He said he asked her when he would be paid. ****It's quite likely the mechanic put the key over the visor or on top of the left front wheel - a common practice for small garages when their customer can't make it in before they close. The vehicle wasn't there the next morning so it "disappeared" - a word usage easily explained by his translating his native language into English.****(and your comment here is not grasping at straws????, pure speculation...I know what I heard from the mans mouth during 2 interviews he did) Another point that flies in the face of some of the wild speculation on this topic, is something called a mechanic's lien which exists in Utah as well as most states. A mechanic making a repair on someones car is entitled to be paid. That is the law. If they are not paid in a timely manner, they can file a mechanic's lien with the state. If they still are not paid, the state will issue a clear title to the mechanic.

In other words, what could possibly motivate the mechanic to frame Ricci? Nothing, absolutely nothing. I never said that I thought the Mechanic was lying or was trying to frame Ricci. I said he sounds confused and if he told the grand jury one version and then told the media another or conflicting versions, this leaves his story wide open for an attorney to poke holes in it

Now I am not reading further down the thread yet as I post this reply to you, but I am hoping that before you posted your thoughts here that you would have read further down why I was posting this strange fact of the mechanic's story has not been the same. And too top all this off, I believe in facts and hard evidence. I DON'T think Ricci is the guy now at this time, because so far everything can be explained away.

The FBI has been canvassing the Smart neighborhood, twice that I know of, doing surveys, etc. Why didn't the neighbor mention the screeching tires and scream to them?

I don't know if Ricci has been married before, but he did lose a son to a car accident (I think the son was hit by a car), the son died. I don't know how many times Angela Ricci has been married, but I have heard she always hooked up with ex-cons.

The police have stated that the first phone call from the Smarts was to the police. I've heard a neighbor of the Smarts say that Ed Smart called them, she and her husband leaped out of bed, got dressed, and went directly to the Smarts' home, and the police tape indicating a crime scene was already there. The police say it took about seven minutes to respond I do believe, Ed Smart says it felt like forever...
