Gore Vows More Spontaneous Campaign

Gore Promises More Spontaneous, Less Restrained Campaign if He Runs for President in 2004

MEMPHIS, Tenn. June 29 — Al Gore told top Democratic fund-raisers Saturday that the party's 2000 campaign had too many consultants and that if he runs for president again he will speak from the heart and "let it rip."

The former vice president attended a weekend retreat with about 60 fund-raisers and Democratic Party activists from across the country.

Reporters were barred from the meetings, but aides and others said Gore promised a different kind of campaign than the Democrats ran in 2000, when he lost to George W. Bush.

Gore said that campaign had "too much strategy, too many consultants giving too much advice," said Chris Korge, a party fund-raiser from Miami.

"If he were to do this again ... he would not be so guarded. He would let it rip and let the chips fall where they may," Korge quoted Gore as saying.

Strategy sessions for this year's November elections were the main focus of the retreat.

In brief comments in a hotel hallway, Gore said he was "extremely encouraged by the level of enthusiasm ... that we're going to have a successful 2002 election."

He said that that encouragement also applied to his possible second run for the presidency.

"Well, sure, but I'm not addressing that decision this weekend and probably won't until after the first of the year," he said.

Gore said he "would spend more time speaking from the heart" on "the basic challenges of the country."

"We're at a time when very basic decisions have to be made about the direction of our country, and I don't think the American people want to see small tactical moves in one direction or another" by political candidates, he said.

Since the 2000 election, the former Tennessee congressman and senator has spent a lot of time in his home state, where he and wife Tipper recently bought a $2.3 million home in Belle Meade, an affluent community bordering Nashville.

Gore said he plans to campaign heavily in Tennessee for the state's Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate and governor.

What was hilarious was hearing about Bore, and Clinton, "finding out who they really are." They are fiftysomethings and still don't know who they are?

I wonder which Bore will be the one speaking from the heart. Will it be the Casanova-Bore, checking his wife's tonsils with his tongue (I wonder how long it took Flipper to cough up the splinters), the Earth-tone suits and soft-spoken Bore, the banging-on-the-Union-podium black preacher Bore, or the use-my-sister's-death-as-campaign-fodder Bore?

This is not Gorebots second attempt at the Presidency.
If you discount the run for Vice Potus this will be his third attemt.

Does anyone else see this as a new 'Alf Smith ' in the making???

Isn't that something? Bush's family helps him on the campaign and it is something for the media to sneer at. Bore's family does it, and it's precious.

You know who this article reminds me of? The male cheerleader played by Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live a few years ago. Trying really hard to be hip, but not ... even ... close!

Let 'er rip, Al. )ugh)

I bet Naomi Wolf told him to say this.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. June 29 — Al Gore told top Democratic fund-raisers Saturday that the party's 2000 campaign had too many consultants and that if he runs for president again he will speak from the heart and "let it rip."

"We need to get back to the traditional Democrat means of winning elections; we weren't aggressive enough last time", said Gore.

"Sure, racebaiting, vote theft, and outright lying can only take you so far," said Gore, "this time our motto is 'Chad is not merely a third world country, it's a way of life'"

"We hope to institute electoral policies more in line with our third world brethren throughout the world, nameably outright intimidation and murder", he stated, before embarking to a luncheon and photo op with Zimbabwean strongman Robert Mugabe.

In other words, Gore wants to campaign more like Clinton in 2004. But he can't. What Clinton was a master at was making underhanded personal ad hominem attacks sound like policy arguments. He would always make these policy observations that tacitly implied that his opponent was an inhuman, unethical monster, but never came out and said it in so many words.

I've always thought that Al suffers from an inherent shortcoming in this regard that prevents him from using this technique as well as Clinton could. (God I love talking about the Clinton presidency in the past tense.) Al can't use all of Clintons tricks because, despite all of Gore's faults, Gore is simply not as bad of a person as Clinton is. Therefore underhanded tricks that Clinton could pull off with ease just don't work for Albert. Al simply lacks sufficient absence of virtue. Look for the same Al Gore in 2004.

Looks like a tough year for TN's Dems.

...he will speak from the heart and "let it rip."

Isn't he forgetting something? One would think that having a heart!!!!!!!! would be a prerequisite to speaking from one! As I understand it, he was absolutely ruthless and heartless during the last campaign. Oh, yeah, I forgot the adjectives "stupid" and "fake". Sorry

quoted Gore as saying.

I find it interesting that he would use the analogy of "falling chips"   in describing his current campaign plans.  I suppose his last campaign could be referred to as "mule muffins."

Sheesh, these guys don't even know when to shut up.
