In addition, there is a far more relevant clause in the FL Constitution, requiring that education provided by the state be what is called an "equal" education. And, it follows logically, that when a student is in a failing school for example, the state is violating its own obligations as expressly stated in the aforementione clause. Consequently, I think FL will prevail here in FL on this issue, due to the specific description mentioned above. The teachers union president seems unaware of this part of the state constitution.

That's what was happening nationwide during the 70's, so they lowered the national standards. Problem corrected without spending hundreds of billions, just hundreds of millions. Dumbing down has and will continue to be successful as long as we have the NEA in charge.

A comparison of the education being taught in 1970 with 2001 is the saddest review I ever read. I wish I had retained the link.

The "equal education" portion may have been what the lower court based its opinion on - I'm not sure. I would definitely argue, that according to the way Florida's voucher system is set up(two consecutive years of the school having a failing grade before students become elligible for vouchers), that "equal education: is being violated if the children can not get out of the failing school.

Of course, the FEA just claims it needs more money and a class size amendment and it can fix the problems without vouchers. A claim that is at least specious.

I'm still 100% behind Jeb. In fact, the other night I dragged my mom to a kickoff meeting of the local RPOF committee in order to support his bid for re-election. He's a shoo-in, but we aren't taking anything for granted. I find it somewhat ironic that I, a registered Libertarian, am doing considerably more than the vast majority of registered Republicans in this area to get Jeb elected.

I can certainly sympathize with Jeb's position -- he's outnumbered and outgunned in rolling back the decades of social engineering and bloated "education" programs that do nothing for parents as far as school quality and choice, and instead simply ensure the same smug fatcats continue to run the show to their benefit alone. As a staunch Constitutionalist, I find myself in similar positions of isolation on a daily basis. Like Jeb, I will continue to stand on principle, even if that means that I often stand alone.

And as for "The teachers union president seems unaware of this part of the state constitution", make no mistake -- they know it full well. They simpply ignore it and attempt to keep the rest of us in ignorance, since it doesn't further their leftist agenda.
