As opposed to the government schools, which are a fraud meant to siphon money from struggling taxpayers.
That said, I've always thought that what the government funds, they will eventually control. As much as I like to see the liberals have a cow, I'm not a voucher supporter for that reason.
Damn, that's well said.
Yes, the lengths Grove City College went to to isolate it from funding--and consequent control--by the federal government certainly supports your position. OTOH the decision is patently correct on the merits of the issue presented to the court. It may, if your fears materialize, produce a third tier of schooling:
-government funded and operatedBest-case scenario might well be the latter, for all--but we aren't getting away from the first, worst, possibility very fast. The new option may produce a constant battleground, but one that at least isn't completely on the bad guys' turf like the first one is.
-government funded but privately operated
-completely private.
The failing public schools are financed by government funds. It is the private schools where vouchers are presently used that have shown to be successful.
School taxes in the Philadelphia area have reached staggering heights. Homeowners are losing their homes v ia sheriff sales. We can educate our kids far better and cheaper using a voucher system.
Ditto your whole post. You captured my thoughts in a perfect nutshell.
The Citadel, which once had only male cadets, is now co-ed because of government money and the influence that comes with it. If government money can cause the Citadel do an about face on something so at-the-core of its history and tradition, then just imagine what government money would do to some little private elementary school.
Government money has way too many strings attached and this is a very slippery slope. I fear the ultimate result of vouchers will be the importation of the public schools' problems into the private schools.
It's not just a thought, it's a fact. Vouchers will destroy private schools, not only through government intervention, but by forcing them to accept the public school dregs.
