You will need to explain this to the many people here who seem to think that this ruling implies that no one anywhere may ever utter the Pledge in any way shape or form lest they be violating some clause of the Constitution that only a truly deluded 1% of the population believes exists (and none of that 1% sits on any judicial panel).

Every child who's parents cannot afford to send them to non-government schools, but must send them somewhere at the point of a gun is forced to say the pledge. Little children cannot opt out due to pressure from teachers and other children. Grow up.

There has to be a pony in that statement.

In kindergarten I was asked by the teacher to do something that was against the teachings of my church. I told her that I couldn't and explained why in my 5-year-old way. Something along the lines of "My Sunday school teacher said I shouldn't."

My parents taught me that I could always opt out of anything that went against what I knew to be right. If the teacher did not agree I was to ask for her to call my parents.

This child could be taught the same thing. Instead she is being taught that if she does not want to do something she not only does not have to do it but she can prevent every one else from doing it too by force.

Let's get this straight; the atheist didn't want his daughter to 'remain silent," right, but has absolutely NO PROBLEM with the others, the vast majority, who want to say the pledge remaining silent?

Exactly, DrCarl is a prime example. Eliminating the words "one nation under God" worksfor him but if others want to inlude those words it doesn't work for him. It works for me both ways. Madison and Jefferson were both concerned with tyranny of the minority because of their roots.
