You've got a point there. In fact, now that I think about it, the Taliban have more gun rights than we do and they don't even have a Constitutional right to them. Let's bring in the Taliban...

Now you both have your rights.
You will need to explain this to the many people here who seem to think that this ruling implies that no one anywhere may ever utter the Pledge in any way shape or form lest they be violating some clause of the Constitution that only a truly deluded 1% of the population believes exists (and none of that 1% sits on any judicial panel).

Every time I see someone commenting on how they are looking forward to the appeal to the USSC I am forced to resist the urge to respond in all CAPS and boldface detailing the exact nature and implications of this ruling and exactly what it means for the case at hand. Somehow, I manage not to succumb. That + the "In God We Trust" thing - which has already been litigated & lost.

Every child who's parents cannot afford to send them to non-government schools, but must send them somewhere at the point of a gun is forced to say the pledge. Little children cannot opt out due to pressure from teachers and other children. Grow up. There has to be a pony in that statement.
In kindergarten I was asked by the teacher to do something that was against the teachings of my church. I told her that I couldn't and explained why in my 5-year-old way. Something along the lines of "My Sunday school teacher said I shouldn't."
My parents taught me that I could always opt out of anything that went against what I knew to be right. If the teacher did not agree I was to ask for her to call my parents.
This child could be taught the same thing. Instead she is being taught that if she does not want to do something she not only does not have to do it but she can prevent every one else from doing it too by force.

Had the discussion several weeks ago that no place in the Constitution did it say "separation of Church and State"Well, as a quick aside, neither will you find the words "right to a fair trial" or "right to privacy"
Thats because rights ARE NOT ENUMERATED, powers GIVEN TO the government MUST BE enumerated and exacting.
That short lesson in Constitutional law is FREE. Pass it along.

Uh, atheists do not believe in any "gods". They do not consider the material world as a "god".

California--Home of Fruits and Nuts!!
To: CecilRhodesGhost
Nice dodge. I give you your atheist state, with its "separation of church and state", its "freedom from religion" and its utopian tolerance for all ...
... and you respond with WTO, WalMart, and Christmas decorations.
When society tosses out God, it tosses out the basis of man's rights, and descends into a brutal totalitarian nightmare.
As a matter of fact, it can be argued that more people have died in the name of atheism than for any other cause.

If Bush doesn't jump all over this to support his claim that the
commies in the Senate are blocking his efforts to get the kind of
judges that America NEEDS, he will be missing a great opportunity. All GW needs to do is get on Airforce one, fly to California, visit a
school and lead the pledge.
To: mhking
I wonder if Newdow moved to California because he knew his best shot was in the Ninth Circuit.
To: Dimensio
They do not consider the material world as a "god".They don't profess that they consider the material world their god, but that is the result.
To: Howlin; DrCarl
Let's get this straight; the atheist didn't want his daughter to 'remain silent," right, but has absolutely NO PROBLEM with the others, the vast majority, who want to say the pledge remaining silent?Exactly, DrCarl is a prime example. Eliminating the words "one nation under God" worksfor him but if others want to inlude those words it doesn't work for him. It works for me both ways. Madison and Jefferson were both concerned with tyranny of the minority because of their roots.
They were right again.

No thanks. I'll stick with the factual stuff.

Nothing 'malcontent'You know very well your purpose on every thread is to be the turd in the punchbowl.
about agreeing with the constitution, - in my book.
Your book? You can read? By your punctuation, I could swear that it's some sort of voice recognition software.
To: Hemingway's Ghost
Was Newdow venue trolling? Here's a story I found out of Broward County, FLORIDA . . .
check it out.
excerpt:
"Newdow is no kook. In fact, he's highly educated -- with degrees from Brown University, UCLA medical school, and University of Michigan's law school -- and argues a mean game when it comes to church-state issues. "Every constitutional lawyer I talked to told me, 'There is no question it is unconstitutional, and there is no question that you will lose,'" Newdow says. "
Brown . . . need I say more?
