USO Canteen FReeper Style...Salutes One of Our Own....June 25,2002
FRiends of the USO Canteen FReeper Style and Snow Bunny

Posted on 06/25/2002 2:31:57 AM PDT by Snow Bunny

Today at the USO Canteen FReeper Style is a very special day. We have all heard that once a Marine always a Marine and that is more true than naught.

There is no finer example of a Marine and a FReeper than LadyX . Her travels in life and into the lives of others has been numerous. Today join us in celebrating LadyX and her 50 years as a Marine.

Many of you have written to me of your appreciation for knowing LadyX and how today marks 50 years since she became a Marine. This is surprise to LadyX and OUR thank to you LadyX, for serving our country and for being a wonderful FReeper and friend.

Her service was during the Korean Conflict in the United States Marine Corps, instructing Women Marine recruits in classroom subjects, and later as a military wife.

With the Marine Corps at its greatest buildup then, for Korean combat, Women Marines freed men for their primary role - to protect our Republic and its ideals.

This is one of my favorite posts that LadyX made.
I saved it and cherish her words.

Thank you, Jen, so much.

You'll laugh at the events of this day 50 years ago...:))
Eight of us girls going into the Corps arrived in Jacksonville for processing through the Navy facilties.
Going by bus to the base for our physicals, I without anticipating the 'requirement' ahead was...um...unprepared.

"Take this and give us your contribution."
LadyX stares at said vial, having emptied before leaving the hotel downtown.
LadyX paces hall - drinks from fountain - paces again. Drinks again, now mortified.
Repeat chorus numerous times, others now glaring at LadyX for the holdup!

FINALLY - SUCCESS!!!
Applause and cheering...:)))
NOW we can have the swearing in ceremony!!

Defund the ESA!
Yes, 9-11 changed our priorities. We still need to work on getting rid of these enviro-wackos but right now concentration is on stopping those d---- terorists.
Wish you could be in Fresno with us in July. I think it is going to be fun.

Your kind words are very much appreciated.

My father served in World War I at Kelly Field (insert applause from all the Texans!!) instructing pilots.
Can you imagine those planes, FlagMan, contrasted with the B-1s you see daily there in Rapid City?!!

In the 20's for fun, he used to fly sometimes with a friend who worked for the Postal Service.
In a Flying Jenny, they'd do the mail run to Daytona Beach, actually landing ON the beach at low tide!!

He was a consulting engineer, and in WWII, too old to enlist, went with the War Production Board.
He was based in Atlanta, in charge of troubleshooting in all the seven Southeastern states in production plants...solved problems in producing anything with metal components - ammunition, armaments, etc.

As the youngest of three daughters and no sons, and his last hope, at 11 he taught me how to survey land, verifying some of the lines on the 1,000 acres he owned - with me handling the transit.
I took mechanical drawing in school - the first girl to do so there.
Of course my mother had her input - I at 11 also began sewing some of my own clothes - played the piano - did the Miami Herald crossword puzzles, etc.

This was BT - Before Television - BC, Before Computers - back in the Dark Ages..:)))
