That bible quote is kind of "in your face" isn't it?

Not really.

Bush said in his speech, "The Bible says, 'I have set before you life and death; therefore, choose life.'" I think the fact that he left off the end "that you may live," and omittted the context: it comes as part of the "blessings and curses" in Deuteronomy," indicates that he wants it to be one message to people who know the Bible (Jews and Christians) and a different message to people who couldn't care less about it (Muslims).

Actually, I thought the Bush speech was pretty hardline. Basically, he was saying there will be no movement towards a settlement unless and until Palestine is a non corrupt democracy which is otherwise house broken with an effective security apparatus effectively rooting out terrorists. That is a rather tall order. I don't expect peace negotiations anytime soon. Israel should go about its business of building the wall, stop all entry of Arabs, and stop its unproductive sweeps etc. of bad guy neighborhoods.

I don't think the bar can be set any lower, and I think it can be reached. Further, if it's not, then we have not lost anything we haven't already. You have to set the goal at the minimum acceptable.

Maybe they will not reach it, true. However, the only possible peaceful solution MUST come from within the Palestinian people. If it does not, then they must be contained and forcibly pacified.

Still this does not end the war, it does protect others from the threat. And, perhaps, another generation of Palestinians will choose rightly.

I think the policy was well laid out; it will wear well with time, the choice will always be with the Palestian people.

Israel will never voluntarily give up Jerusalem. Bush knows this and I don't think he expects them to give it up.
