I am not characterizing Bush as another Chamberlain...Yet. If anyone, that may more properly be laid at the footsteps of Secretary of State Powell. But the comparison of Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler and that of Bush's appeasement of the Saudi backers of Al-Quida and the PLO does seem worth considering, and it does seem to have struck a nerve.
And I will be very happy if future comparisons of Bush II are not with Norwegian despot Vidkun Quisling, who as Abraham Lauritz Jonsson was also a commissioned US military officer...as Bush was. Let us hope that Bush takes clear steps to direct America's might against those in the Middle East and Southwest Asia who have attacked it, instead of against his fellow American citizens.
And, of course, in a few years we shall see how the invasion from the southern border has fared, and whether steps have been taken to protect that land...or to surrender it.
We shall see.
