Good speech with an unobtainable vision , The current Palestinians are an entire generation of terrorists brainwashed by Arafat. They are hatred personified, they will choose death....because to succeed and get their own state they would have to renounce terror and get their asses to work. They dont want to work, they want to piss and moan and blame Israel for all of their faults.

The mayor of Jerusalem just said on MSNBC that Arafat will never comply (or words to that effect) and is now correcting David Gregory's remarks about the '67 borders. He's all but calling the President a genius.

OK - the mayor of Jerusalem jumped on Lester Holt for David Gregory's comments about the '67 borders...left Holt backpedaling -- I love it!

Because he has given them THE choices they HAVE to make to GET a state. If they don't come along, they are NOT going to get a state.
They can choose now.

Yes, you did! And, we should!
Think WPTF would go for a late night (that's the only time they would give us) political duo call in show???

I love it!

Only downside was GWBush using the Pallie buzz word *occupation* too many times. I counted 3 times.

Either that or some on here are spinning faster that the pali representative that they are interviewing on Fox News right now.

I was pleasantly surprised by his speech. I had my stomach clenched, expecting the worst -- that he would say that a state is necessary to alleviate their "pain" and anger and all that bullclinton -- but I pretty much agreed with what he said. No state until they have normal, responsible leadership and rout out the terrorists.

Haven't you heard? BushBot is NOT a smear any longer; it is the political equivalent to "Clinton hater."

Rejection will carry its own price. The offer, rejected, will allow for a policy of war when it is rejected violently. Thank you. You're saying it's a line in the sand, so to speak. Ok. It's out there. I hope we react decisively when they blow up something.

Baloney!
per Britt Hume , Bush has set very high hurdles before an Indepentent Palestine State appears!

Judy Woodruff is having a STROKE on CNN. It must be a GREAT plan!

He has given into terrorismNot at all. Terrorism is winning by preventing peace. Bush is continually moving forward toward peace even though they use the terrorism to stop it.
I don't see how this process can work but it does provide hope for a future for the Palis, and the Israelis as long as they work toward peaceful goals, turn away from terrorism and agree to resolve their differences so that both parties can live peacefully.
Too tall an order for them to accomplish - but it does show a way out if they are willing to turn from the current path.

Where the heck did 1967 borders get saidI assume it's his interpritation (faulty) of the reference to UN 242 and Jerusalem. That will be the standard interpritation, ignoring GWBs comment that the borders will be negotiated per 242.
A MSNBC commentator said Bush told Israel she would have to abandon the settlements. Did anyone else hear that?
To: Freedom'sWorthIt
So, did he not propose a "provisional Palestinian State"I assume the press idiots have that phrase set as a macro in their word processors.
I also assume that a Bush push for such a state would ensure another good round of Democratic fundraising among my co-religionits. Hence, its repitition regardless of its veracity.
To: mhking
I did hear him say that to gain peace Israel will have to end the occupation that it began in 1967. He did not, however, specifically mention those borders
To: Types_with_Fist
It isn't. It isn't intended to. It's to free America to move in the Middle East. It deconstructs the arguments and takes them away. These tired arguments and lies and spins. Everything is being swept off the stage. This is the Palestinians only chance (given by this administration) to get its house in order. After that, what comes your way, is your own fault.
Israel has been held up as the innocent party. The onus is on the Palestinians. Get rid of the terrorist and the terrorism and we will welcome you to the table. Israel has been saying this for 30 years.
If you don't... then you have sealed your fate...
To: carton253
Exactly. This was all about the current Palestinian problems- nothing about Israel. This proposal was conditional- either you do this or you get nothing. The entire first part of his speech, you could substitute the word Iraq for Palestinian.
The key will be to see what Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan will say. I suspect they will remain pretty quiet- a silent, supportive quiet. I think they were told by the Bush admin what was going to come down. And he did mention Egypt and Jordan as key players.
LOVED GWB calling out all Arab states regarding supporting terrorism. I do wish he would have said something about accountability for that- ahem, Saudi Arabia.

LOL .. this is where you are all at .. I was stuck over on the other thread
