Oh, what the heck; I have a minute so -- here's the reply, posted:

The Reply from Jeb's office follows:
From: Herndon_Tom
To: "'kunstforgovernor@hotmail.com'"
Subject: Enron
Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 09:55:20 -0500

Governor Bush's office has asked that I respond to your recent e-mail on this subject. I am the Executive Director of the Florida State Board of Administration, the agency charged with investing the assets of the pension fund. It is certainly tragic that these losses have occurred, but I assure you that the pension fund remains strong with a significant surplus and dramatic contribution rate reductions over the last four years. Governor Bush and the other Trustees have been very dedicated and responsible fiduciaries for the pension fund, and I am confident that they will continue that same prudent attitude into the future.

Thank you for your continued interest in government oversight, and feel free to contact me with any further questions.

That was pretty nice of Gov Bush to have someone reply to such an email! I guess Bob Kunst is someone the Dem Party shouldn't make stand out in parking lots!

I especially like this part, from Bob Kunst's letter posted in my reply #40 -- as it shows Gov Bush is always friendly to people, even to Bob Kunst:

"Remember when you [Jeb] waved at me and my signs when you and "W" were in Daytona recently?"

Bob, of course Gov Bush remembers you -- that's why he waved! :)

'Bob Kunst wrote to Jeb about Enron, and received a reply!'

One of the things that really gets to the Dems, IMHO, is that the Bush's are such pleasant, decent people. It really makes their frothing at the mouth hatred look as mean spirited as it is.

About the Kirk button, which of course was from when he was a favorite son Presidential candidate, I still remember Claude Kirk. It is not a pleasant memory for Florida Republicans. He was another in the strange zoo of Florida political types. My biggest concern about Jeb is that he is too normal for Florida. Reno and Kunst are right at home with the Florida political wildlife.

...the Bushes are pleasant...Jeb [is] too normal for Florida....

I think I understand what you are saying here. And, I really like what Gov. Bush is for, and how he treats a political opponent. Check this out, as it's one for the Ripley's Believe it or Not course on FL:

From AP:

Though he has never spoken with the
president, Kunst did have an
exchange with his brother Florida
Gov. Jeb Bush.

"I was in Tallahassee with a 'Jail to
the Thief' sign. I yelled and screamed
that he [Jeb] was an embarrassment," he [Bob]
said. "He [Jeb] yelled 'I love you, man!'"

Well, Dem Leaders can make fun of Bob Kunst, while Gov Bush treats him with respect and kindness, but I say Bob Kunst can not be all bad when he has the good sense enough to post this on his web site, in a link called "Kunst on Reno" re: Reno and Waco:

[a voter who supports Kunst] says:

I am also a Democrat, but my patience with Reno expired several years ago. I do not agree that she is a caring person trying to do the right thing....

Her handling of the Waco situation should have resulted in her resignation, or her firing by Clinton. About 80 persons, almost all of them entirely innocent of any wrong-doing, were killed by the US government under her direction. Proper handling of the situation would have resulted in the arrest of a few Dravidians on their frequent visits to town. A military assault to arrest people accused of fairly minor crimes was entirely unwarranted. The Oklahoma bombing was a direct result of her misdeeds at Waco. No intelligent Democrat can vote for her.

Wow! This is new: "intelligent" FL Democrat! No wonder Dem leaders won't let Bob Kunst speak anywhere -- what if wanted to speak to the "intelligent" Dem voters in FL? He'd be all by himself -- out in a parking lot...

I haven't been ignoring you, I've been away from the computer for a few hours.

I'm caught up on the posts made since I left, and I have to agree with Sulla that Jeb seems a little too normal for Florida politics. Maybe he is setting a long needed precedent for normalcy and politeness. It looks like he is killing his enemies with kindness, a welcome change from all the harsh rhetoric that we are accustomed to. That doesn't mean that he is soft on the issues, though. He just isn't mean spirited about it.

'a welcome change from all the harsh rhetoric that we are accustomed to.'

The Dems all seem to read from the James Carville book, one that has worn out its welcome with most folks. Jeb is sort of the anti-Carville.

Quite telling for the FOP to oppose the former Attorney General.

This is a wonderful thread, summer, full of heart and humor. (^:

For the sake of balance, here's what some of Florida's finest had to say about Ms. Reno (and they know Ms. Reno):

Alberto Millian, PBA Director of Political Affairs and a former prosecutor, said many local officers feel betrayed by Reno's actions.

"She's not liked by law enforcement," he said. "As a local prosecutor she presided over an explosion of crime down here. Drug trafficking increased, she was soft on public corruption and generally made it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs," Millian said.

"Janet Reno's legacy has been one of politicizing the law enforcement process to serve either her political constituencies, her friends or alliances or her agenda. That's not a good law enforcement official," he added.
From: Men in Blue Seeing Red Over Reno. CNSNews.com, Dec. 12, 2001

*** "Don't be afraid of an independent monitor, Governor," the ex-attorney general taunted during an address in St. Petersburg. "Develop some performance standards for yourself, Governor. Hold yourself accountable, Governor." Reno Call for Independent Investigation.
