Men Flee Airport After Taking Photos

Reported By: Joel Thomas
Web Editor: Manav Tanneeru
Last Modified: 6/22/2002 12:22:44 PM

Fulton County police issued a Be On The Lookout, or BOLO, for two men who were observed taking pictures of the aircraft and facilities of Raytheon Aircraft Thursday at the Fulton County Municipal Airport-Charlie Brown Field.

The two men fled when Raytheon employees approached them. The men drove away in a tan PT Cruiser bearing the Canadian tag AMMZ226.

One of the men was described as a white male, about 40 years old, heavy set and standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall. The other was described as simply being about 30 years old.

Fulton County police are asking anyone with information to call (404) 641-7562 or (404) 505-3244.

A guy in our reserve unit bought a Pinto, and the commanding officer who didn't like this guy said privately, "We should cancel his security clearance for buying a Pinto. That's Proof positive that he is too dumb to have a security clearance."

Even better, I traded a drop top 67 HO Firebird 400cuin V8 on a 72 Pinto, with the small 1600 engine no less. Sheesh! (Hey it was the gas crisis, long lines, odd even, etc)

I agree with everything in your post. The most likely story concerning these guys was:

they were amateur aviation buffs, and were out scrapbooking. Perhaps they were Hosers, and didn't want to risk finding themselves on the wrong side of American aviation psychosis.

If I were not US, and someone got suspicious of me around an airport, I would haul tail out of there as fast as I could. In saner times, this would not be a big deal, but now it could be the difference between an innocent misunderstanding and a one-way trip to XRAY.

My points in earlier posts were to lampoon the chorus of the "suspend the Bill of Rights, we are in an undeclared, undefined war" crowd.

BTW, I appreciated your comments on the Lindh thread. Many of your points were valid, although I still disagreed with much of what you were saying. Perhaps another day.

You don't think your statement that "FReeperland" posters trash the Constitution is offensive to conservatives?

Look, zip...
Let's take this down a peg.

My whole point was to point out that FR has become the repository for big gov't GOP statists, and true conservatives are being crowded out and censored.

Look around FR and what do you see? You see a pack of mind-numbed GOP cheerleaders who think that GWB could declare martial law, and that would be just duckie. The amount of posters that would have been calling for pitchforks and torches had the president been the Goron or UNIBANGER, but when GWB proposes giving away hundreds of millions to Africans, amnesty for Mexican illegals, hike the steel taxes, CFR, Patriot Act, federal screeners, no guns for pilots, and a host of other liberal initiatives, all you hear is "yeah! we took another campaign issue from the libs!!!"

These same folks think it is just right-on to suspend the Bill of Rights in an undefined and undeclared war. I happen to believe that you can fight a real war, and keep our freedoms active.

This is why I consider myself to be a true conservative. I love our country more than GWB or some Congressional majority. Go ahead and check me out. My conservative credentials are as strong as anyone's. There are a few of us out there, but many big gov't GOP statists call us liberals and disruptors, because we dare call our own to account. We did it with The UNIBANGER and we are doing it with this cretin.

While I know little of you, if you play the odds, I am probably to the right of you, as I am to the right of most FReepers. Perhaps not.

I find it sad when otherwise "conservative" people sell out to a party, and follow in its footseps and disregard our Constitution.

As for the dog yelping, you were the one who took offense against me saying some FReepers trash the Constitution. Funny how the usual conservatives didn't take offense; it's because they knew I was not referring to them.

dear piasa,

you were reading my mind. No one runs if your just take pictures innocently.

The people trashing the poster like he is out of his mind always forget the little detail about how they split - in a hurry.

Like with my five year old - they've got guilt written allover there little terrorist faces Regards,

Not to get off on a tangent, but I believe our border with Canada is a far bigger threat than our border with Mexico.

Not to slight the problem with our southern border, but I believe you are right, for several reasons.

Besides, many North Africans speak French. Not many Muslims speak Spanish, that I know of.

UPDATE: Per WSB-TV Action News Nightbeat (11P ET):

The men are from New Zealand and travel around the world taking pictures of airplanes and air facilities. They contacted the FBI this afternoon after hearing news reports locally.

I bet that you wish that you still had that Firebird.

My wife had a great red and white 1968 Chevy Camaro Convertible, with the smaller V8. Six years ago she had hand surgery and could not use her right hand to shift gears for six months.

So she sold it to a friend who babied it. She turned down better offers from families with teenagers.

When you drove that Pinto after your bird, you must felt like you had a gerbil as the engine.

I have no idea. My speculation is they were very anxious about our psychosis on airports and aviation. If they were foreigners, they might be headed for XRAY. Perhaps they thought the US authorities would be very dangerous, and they would not have a fair shot of showing they are not guilty.

Given how our Constitutional freedoms for US CITIZENS has been stood on its head, I understand.

On the otherhand, they might have been up to something nefarious.

Leaving the scene in a rapid manner may be suspicious, but it does nothing to confirm guilt.

"Just drove through El Paso, saw a lot of people swimming in the Rio Grande (a death defying act), but the 'border' was a chain-link fence."

Our northern border doesn't even have chain-link, or any other kind of fence. Sadly.

Name one just one of the amendments to the US Constitution that has been shredded?

It was the Democrats that rounded up US Citizens in the middle of the night an put them in concentration camps.

See Executive order 9066

For more recent abuses see Vietnam war. A faked Gulf of Tonkin incident was fabricated solely for Pres Johnson’s election hopes.

Better yet save it for your prominent Democratic Sen. Byrd a former KKK member and recruiter, He truly believes in Habeas corpus and right to consul.

Just as Reno with her Carnivore / Burn the kids at Waco mentality.

The Al Qeda in Gitmo have been treated 100% better than were the Branch Dravidians by Kintoon and Reno.

"Leaving the scene in a rapid manner may be suspicious, but it does nothing to confirm guilt."

And asking them why they took pics hung around and fled is not an arrest warrant, trial or conviction.

When the President uses his authority to quite his political advisories thru IRS intimidation as Klintoon had done; that is attempting to shred the Constitution.

When I fill out my w-2 and am forced to bear witness against my self that is shredding the US Constitution.

And it is done so that liberals may take my money to redistribute it to other stupid liberals that cannot cut it in life.

My Father-In-Law recently purchased a Fire Engine Red Pinto Woody Wagon with a red interior. It's in great shape! The thing is so stupid looking, it's cool . . .

I'm trying to convince him to drop a big block Ford V-8 into the thing. He just laughs at my suggestion . . .

I say round up all white males between 30 and 40, accuse them of an unusual interest in aviation, receiving training in fleeing the scene of a non-crime, strip them of their citizenship, and hold them until this undefined, undeclared war is over.

Since when is it illegal to take pictures of aircraft?
