"I would sue for intentional infliction of emotional distress, as well as breach of agreement and/or fraud."

Who you going to sue, God?

"If the deceased is indeed in hell, we can be sure that he will be afflicted with the company of this "preacher" in due time."

So, you think preaching the Bible will get you sent to Hell?

I've heard of "hell-fire-and-damnation" sermons, but I've never seen a pastor preach a "hell-fire-and-damnation" Eulogy

Eulogy -- A laudatory speech or written tribute, especially one praising someone who has died.

What a sad state of a man when speaking well of someone is telling his relatives the he is in hell. As a greek expert, isn't the greek word for eulogy translated bless in our Bibles?

Don't be silly these words were spoken to these people by a man. I would sue the man who emotionally assaulted this grieving family.

So, you think preaching the Bible will get you sent to Hell?

Could you show me where in the Bible it says that this guy in Georgia who just died was a drunkard and a fornicator. Then show me where it says to say that to his family at a funeral.

People like you give Christian fundamentalism a bad name. "Little Suzie, your Dad was a bad man, and right now he is on fire and the Devil is poking him with a pitchfork." While she is grieving the recent loss.

And you are on his side.

I remember a funeral in which the preacher basically told the mourners the same thing, that their beloved was probably in hell, and they were probably all headed there too, unless they turned themselves around. But he said it in such a way that they all came up and thanked him afterward.

Sometime hard things need to be said, but if you clearly love, and respect the dignity of the people you're talking to, you can get out the door without a broken nose.

No, but neither will being a drunkard and a fornicator. You are either saved or you are not. Once you are saved it's a done deal. Even future sins are wiped away. If this preacher knew the Bible, he would know there is no way of knowing who is in hell and who isn't. By preaching a false works salvation gospel, one must wonder if the preacher himself is saved or not.

The man who preached is the deceased individual's nephew, according to the acticle. The materialists would assume the man lashed out for being forgotten in the will, one supposes.

but he has seen that the world really doesn't want to hear the truth.

I remember sitting at my brother in laws funeral..he was a drunk and a vile man that never went to church..The priest waxed on how Johnnie loved God ,his family and the church...and how we wili all "see " him again!

Standard fair..I thought well lots of YOU folks may see him again but I will not "Thank God"

Isn't interesting that if you ask most people (even "christians" )why they believe they will go to heaven that standard thought is that they are "good " or they "try" to do what is right..BUT If you then point out the carnal reprobate is in hell they get angry..

In their heart most men are univeralists they want to believe you can live like hell here and get rewarded anyway...Go figure

"Actually, if you check the Red/Blue map, Baldwin county went for Bush"

You'd better believe it! As a matter of fact, we saw as many, if not more, Baldwin County folks at the Bush Rallys in downtown Mobile (Mobile County btw).

Wicked Earl Department.

Deliciously wicked obit.

Number three was Cynthia Westendarp, a Suffolk farmer's wife whom the earl met at Newmarket. After she contracted polio, he invited her to recuperate at Kimberley, his seat near Wymondham, Norfolk, "and she never moved out". They were married in 1953, and divorced in 1961.

Three years before that, he had sold Kimberley, a Queen Anne brick mansion built on land held by his forebears for five centuries - ....

"it was the easiest way to get rid of Cynthia. All I could think about was buying a new Aston Martin".

Well, actually you can. That is the Gospel. Accepting Jesus Christ may make you a new creation, but it does not automatically turn you into a differently person outwardly. It is possible to be a fully justified, saved Christian, and still continue some old bad habits. It doesn't make you any less saved.

The root problem here is the funeral was held by the wrong church. They should have gone to The Church of the Drunken Orgy.

On closer reading, I see that the precher' wife was actually the deceased's niece, making the preacher an in-law from hell. I would say your theory about the will is reasonable. And all of the other family feud possibilities.

It seems shocking to me that the preacher would use the Bible for such petty vindictiveness and traumatize family members like that.

They should have just given the guy an Irish funeral.

Ohh.. Kidding folks, It's a joke, just kidding here.

When my father-in-law (a former drunkard) died, none of the family wanted to stand up and deliver a eulogy, so they asked me to do it.
Since I only knew him after he kicked the habit, I had only kind things to say about him.

We agree on that Southern..We really do not know what happened at the final moments of this mans life. God may have done a work..(Yea even on my brother in law)

And you are right we are a work in progress..never complete till we go home to Him...

This was a hard sermon..I personally would not have encouraged its preaching..BUT I would not have declared him "saved" (as they did my brother in law) either...that is a false hope..

We are told that a good tree can not bear bad fruit. This man had rotten fruit.

The Pastor SHOULD IMHO have used this as an occassion to say that he hopped that so and so had repented his lifes sins and turned to Jesus as all that are to be saved must..

I accept your correction:>)

My dear Grandpa once asked to officiate at a funeral for a family that was not in his church. After giving a very generic eulogy he asked if anyone would like to say a few words. The man's wife stood up and said, "He beat me and the kids, he drank, he cheated and never did a days honest work in his life. Tell me Reverend, is he in heaven?"

Grandpa stood there for a few seconds with his mouth open before stammering out “No, Sister, unless he repented he isn’t in heaven.”

She smiled sweetly and said “Thank You Reverend, turned to the coffin and hissed “Burn in hell, you bastard!” and sat back down.
