Scientists: Space Is Color of Latte

BALTIMORE (AP) - Good news for coffee lovers: Space, the final frontier, is the color of a latte. So say astronomers Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry at Johns Hopkins University.

In January, the two determined that the universe was a sprightly pale turquoise, then after discovering a glitch in their software in March, they realized that the average color was actually a milky brown.

Not knowing what to call it, besides beige, they solicited suggestions, prompting nearly 300 e-mails with ideas including Big Bang Beige, Cappuccino Cosmico, Galactic Gold and Infinite Sand.

The winner? Cosmic Latte.

Take a look at any of the Hubble photos and realize that this whole average all the colors thing is just so bogus.

And yes I know that there is a lot of false color in some of those photos......but not all of them.

I know some Americans say "latte" to mean a kind of coffee, but latte means milk in Italian. And this article would be much more interesting if space actually looked like milk.......

The AP journalists got this wrong. The scientists actually think the color of the universe is very close to white hence the name latte.

With all the Starbucks, Tullys, Peetes, Java Cities and other upscale coffee houses, my favorite coffee still comes from the local donut house. I'm with you on this one.

they realized that the average color (of space) was actually a milky brown Hmmmm. Take a pale beige filter and look at it in the dark - looks black, then look at it in front of a 300 Watt light bulb - looks white. These amazing scientists are telling us it's somewhere in between those. I'm thinking these scientists are operating with dim bulbs.
