Bill: No Surprise Probe a Bust

Former President Bill Clinton said yesterday he's "certainly not surprised" prosecutors ended the probe of one of his most controversial pardons without filing charges.

The case involved clemency Clinton gave four swindlers from the Hasidic enclave of New Square in Rockland county 10 weeks after the town voted 1,400-to-12 for his wife, Hillary Clinton, in the 2000 Senate race.

Confirming a report in yesterday's Daily News, Manhattan U.S. Attorney James Comey said his office "thoroughly investigated and determined it wasn't appropriate to bring charges against anybody in the case."

Touring a charter school on W. 170th St. in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, the former President had a muted reaction.

"Happy is the wrong word," he said. "I am certainly not surprised. ... There was never any reason to believe anybody had done anything wrong."

The clemency ignited controversy because of Hillary Clinton's lopsided victory in New Square and her two meetings with the town's leaders, including a December 2000 sitdown at the White House that included her husband.

Thank you for your dilligent posting of interesting, useful articles... I used to go all over the web hunting for stuff like this, but I eventually realized that "if it's worth reading about, it will show up on Free Republic..."

Senator Schumer member of both the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Courts Subcommittee, which has oversight over judicial and US Attorney nominations found his man in James Comey Jr who like Mary Jo White can find no wrong doing by either Clinton.

The New Square vote simply doesn't pass the smell test and where are the four Hasidic "swindlers" now, swindlers ? swindlers my foot, they are out and out criminals, the type of person the Clinton's are very much at home with.

"Five agencies have refused to endorse the accuracy of Clinton's published DNA profile. This further suggests that the President's DNA may have been altered for privacy and security reasons. With the Star magazine DNA tests taken from OIC documents and the fact that there may have been an altercation, the paternity test could prove to be worthless.

My understanding is that in some villages, the leaders decide who to vote for and the village pretty much goes along. On that basis, the New Square vote could be OK.

However, given the other details - the meeting before the vote, the actual vote, the subsequent pardon - there is a certain sulfurous aroma.
