WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Wednesday Israel had a right to defend itself as that country vowed to reoccupy Palestinian land as long as attacks continue, while President Bush waited for the dust to settle to unveil a long-awaited Middle East peace initiative.

The new U.S. policy, still a subject of high-level discussion, is expected to call for the early creation of a Palestinian state with temporary borders. Under consideration by Bush and his aides was a three-year timetable for negotiations for permanent borders, contingent on a halt to violence and measurable reform by the Palestinians.

Bush knows the Pallies will never do this, and the terms are undefined (we get to say when they have complied). They are more and more radicalized. The media is focusing on "Bush wants a Palestinian state" but have ignored the details.

Make that "waiting for the body parts to settle" -- what a disgrace this placation of Arab states is becoming. Rather than striking at our enemies in the Arab world, we restrain Israel from striking at our enemies in the Arab world. And our weakness emboldens them more each day.
