Benjamin Netanyahu? If you heard his speech to the US Senate the week after 9/11, where he called for an Alliance of Democracies as opposed to the coalition we currently have, you would have been impressed by his oratory and resoluteness.

I heard it and you are right. It *was* good. This war on terror is turning out to be a joke.

Whether it is Netanyahu or someone else, the military governance of the territories should be re-established. This is the only hope (IMHO, and whether or not they appreciate it) for the Palestinians themselves and for their "national aspirations". It should have been done around '96 once it was utterly clear that Oslo had completely failed. Thousands of Israeli and Palestinian lives could have been saved, and billions of dollars that have been siphoned off by kleptocrats and murders would instead be available to build the infrastructure to undergird a Palestinian civitas. Lives can still be saved (I shudder to even guess how many) and we will actually be advancing the date of the eventual creation of a Palestinian state, if this step is taken now.
