I was giving an observational description of (modern Western) atheistic piety. Christianity admits a minimalist description, too, as a certain collection of beliefs, but observationally, Christians pray.

The difference is that protesting government involvement in religion (whether real or imagined) is not a "tenet" of atheism. Atheists who gather together as a collective for such matters may do so because they share a common philosophy, but the philisophy that tells them to protest such matters is an issue seperate from their atheism. Atheism is a non-event, it is to religion like baldness is to hair colour or barefoot is to shoes.
