OK, I am suprised this hasn't been posted yet. I did a search on Smart, House, and Garage, and came up with nothing.

Anyway, each new piece of information gets progressively weird. Now it looks like there is no evidence of break-in, so this possible but highly unlikely story comes out. I continue to pray for the girl, but am now leaning towards this being the work of a family member or close friend.

And the family is covering for him, by releasing this story of how an intruder might've gotten in...?

Hmmm, the police discredit this theory that the assailant broke in by means of cutting a hole in the screen, and now the family suddenly has a new theory as to how they entered? How convenient.

This is Jon Benet Part II I'm afraid and we may never find out what happened to that girl. But her family knows. You can be damn sure of that.

Hours before the abduction, the Smart family returned from an end-of-the-year function at Bryant Intermediate School, where Elizabeth was supposed to perform her harp. Her family arrived too late for that, but she received awards for academics and physical fitness

This is also newsworthy. Who would be late for something like that? Perhaps there was a big fight at home. If not, I'll bet that Elizabeth was pissed when they got home, or her parents were pissed is she was the reason they were late.

Not that one would kill over that, but it is highly likely there was a family conflict over this, the night of the "abduction". A fight on a night like this is certainly interesting, and I am sure is being pondered by the investigators.

I saw the interview with the Dad this morning. It sure stinks. I wonder if he is related to the Dam's or Ramseys. It doesn't fit (his comments)

I think all the weirdness can be explained by looking at this as a HOSTAGE situation. The police are tightly controling information that goes out to the public, and possibly even puting out false information, because they need to locate where she is being held and rescue her without spooking the perp into killing her and running.

I think it would be wise if everyone waited till this was over and all the facts are out.

Scottish-style golf hat

Your average run of the mill kidnapper of children usually wear Scottish Style golf hats.

Here's my problem: How does a stranger -- that is, someone who has never been inside the house before -- find his way to the girl's room through a million dollar labyrinth in the darkness of the night and then escape with the girl undetected? That alone should narrow the prime suspects down to a family member, family friend, or a person who has performed work in the house such as a painter, electrician, etc.

Another possibility is that the girl has staged her own abduction, when in fact she's run off with a boyfriend or perhaps someone she met on the Internet.

My final theory for the day is that maybe she's become the fifth wife of some polygamist living somewhere near the Utah/Arizona border.

Another incisive post, Rodney.

Hours before the abduction, the Smart family returned from an end-of-the-year function at Bryant Intermediate School, where Elizabeth was supposed to perform her harp. Her family arrived too late for that, but she received awards for academics and physical fitness.

So it was not just the family missing Elizabeth's performance. It was Elizabeth herself who missed it. Of course, stuff happens and there are a million reasons why the Smarts did not arrive at the awards ceremony in time for Elizabeth to perform. But I would think that (a) this would definitely be upsetting to a girl her age, and (b) with two parents, two cars and lots of local family members, friends, fellow churchgoers, there were probably plenty of ways to have gotten her there on time. Combined with the overall oddity of the story, this tidbit raises my suspicion that something more went on within the Smart family earlier in the evening.

O.K. Everybody how about this one? We've all seen pictures of the house. Pretty nice wouldn't you say? Lots of rooms and very roomy? So what sets my mind to thinking is why would they store a $20,000 harp in the garage?

Hmmm? Well?

The father of missing 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart says he left a garage door open for at least two hours on the night before the girl's disappearance.

This has degenerated from a heart-wrenching story to something you might see on "The Simpsons."

I hate to think like this, but I'm half way expecting them to find the girl's body in a forgotten closet in the basement -- then find out the remainder of the family has moved to Atlanta....

Oops...that's Jon Benet Ramsey.

But you all get the picture...

"Smart said he made certain other doors were locked that night, but he didn't notice a hand-cranked kitchen window left partly open. "

Couple that with the garage door and that someone could have been hiding in the house somewhere for many hours... and you have to wonder if this guy has a house that's too big for him to really keep under guard by himself.

Something is not right still. I am sticking with the uncle did this. Also none of these people deserve to have the last name they do. They are far from it.
