That's who the *real* John Doe #2 turned out to be ... he was thought by one witness to have accompanied Tim McVeigh to Elliott's Body Shop while picking up the Ryder truck -

- but had actually come in a day later and the witness was in error about the association with Tim McVeigh ...

Why was Nichols going to the Phillipines?

No one ever 100% matches their police sketch, especially after several years and the fact that JD#2 was drawn white when he was reported by most eyewitnesses to be olive/swarthy. Compare though to Padilla cleverly turned into a sketch posted by hole_in_one

That's unknown for sure, although terrorists in the Phillipines reported meeting with an American called "The Farmer" when he was there, and their desctription matched Terry Nichols. And since he's a bomb-buddy of McVeigh, didn't take his wife (a native of the PI) and feared for his personal safety it can be surmised that he was up to the proverbial "no good."

Yeah, I love when people use "conspiracy theories" interchangably to refer to allegations of a criminal conspiracy based on known facts and motives.

The term "conspiracy theory" covers everything from tinfoil-hat crackpottery about Elvis being abducted by a Bigfoot-piloted UFO to rock-solid prosecutions cases against criminal conspirators. Blurring the distinctions between cases that fall near the ends of this gamut is intellecutally dishonest.
