Is it okay with you if we incorporate that into your opus, which will, of course, be written by a "new screenname" or a friend of yours after you pass from this place? Quit antagonizing. It ain't gonna happen. Sneakypete didn't name himself dummass.

I am curious. When you invited to dinner, do you throw the food served at your host?
To: carenot
I reckon I missed that he gets a trial. You have a history of that.
To: strela
Oh I can handle anger. (I've been married for 20 years!) I just hate to see good freepers get really, truly mad at each other. We are one very special family, after all. parsy the peaceful.

All I want is for people who may be innocent, to be given the chance to argue their case. We've seen that the government can act without just cause, as it did many times during the Clinton administration. The legal premise of Habeas Corpus at least allows an American citizen to defend himself because a charge is defined and leveled against them. The present circumstances has Padilla confined, indefinitely, with no charge and chance to refute the claims the government has made. This is bad precedent, Jim. This allows President Hillary to do this to us. The Friday Wall Street Journal made three recommendations that would be satisfactory. It would establish procedures that would protect our rights, while still allowing action against traitorous Americans when top secret considerations might prevent a standard civil criminal trial. I'll see if I can find the post. I need to live in a country where if you are innocent, you can defend yourself against an untrue charge levied against you by the government. 784 posted on 6/16/02 8:31 PM Pacific by LazamatazI gotta question to you both... (I am not Ex-Military, so I have to ask)... is there any established criteria, in War, for separating Traitors from Enemy Combatants?
It's actually an important question.
- In the case of Traitors: we ask questions first, and then shoot them -- which is Legally as it should be.
- In the case of Enemy Combatants: we shoot first, and ask questions later -- which is Militarily as it should be.
Jim, you're a veteran, and I am just asking a question -- who's a Traitor, and who's an Enemy Combatant?
Are there ANY protocols, or do we need to write some?
By the way -- Unless I am mistaken, Congressman Ron Paul did NOT authorize any "war". Rather, Congressman Ron Paul said that the only way to avoid a horrific Constitutional FUBAR was to formally declare War... otherwise, we have our Nationalist Heads up our Constitutional Arse.

Hey, I saw it with my own eyes. If I knew how to bring those posts up, I would. That old freak needed some serious psych help. But wasn't he banned long before 911. ??
To: Fred Mertz

Where is it that corners have been cut? Has Padilla received the due process he is entitled to as a enemy combatant? or, do you deny the Feds the right to call him that?
To: parsifal
We are one very special family, after all. I agree. Which is why nothing I've seen posted in this thread bothers me that much. We fought like tigers in my family just about every day - seems perfectly normal to me.

Or did somebody elect Bin Laden to public office or appoint him as a judge in the US while I wasn't watching? So the thousands of innocent American civilians he slaughtered in the sneak attack don't matter?
They didn't get a trial, they didn't get a hearing and they didn't even get a warning. So much for their due process.

AFAIK his h-b from the military jail has not been ruled on. Do you know what the established time-frame is on this? Or even if there is one?
To: parsifal
You mis-read. I said, " hostile military force." Not just any military force. I have no problem with US citizens serving in the UK armed forces but I would have a problem with US citizens serving in the PRC People's Army.
Mercenaries take no oath of allegiance to their employers government. It is more a independent contract thing and each side is free to walk away.

Gosh, and what's worse is they don't get to sleep in the dark in their comfy cells! Oh the horror of it all!
To: Jhoffa_
Say, now that you bring up the gangs, wasn't this last guy a gansta? We may be out of style, you know?

The only thing that makes that one stand out is that it was more successful than earlier onesI get it! The only thing that makes a 10 kiloton nuclear denoation stand out from a firecracker is that the nuke has a bigger (i.e., more "successful") explosion.
It's really easy to understand when you think about it!
You are so wise. You have the uncanny ability to place these things in perspective. Like you, I will henceforth no longer be worried about the possibility of terrorist nukes being detonated in one of our cities. Rather, I will only be worried about Bush, Rumsfeld, and Ashcroft "overreaching" as they strive to counter this terrorist threat.

And I mean that in the best possible way...

Just that it's pretty quick.
Should happen this week, or early next week at the latest.
