Good-Bye Cruel Free Republic
6-16-02 | wasfree

Posted on 06/16/2002 5:32:24 AM PDT by magnum opus dejure

Well, it's been 4 years since I first found Free Republic. I have always felt like I belonged here and have really enjoyed the banter back and forth between us members. I am afraid all this is now over. I am really suprised and shocked at it's suddenness. Before I leave I want to thank a freeper from Michigan who sent me a DVD player last year to give to my kids for Christmas. You reaffirmed my faith in humanity.

I know this thread will be deleted before many people get to read it, but I just can't go without saying a final word. Every since 911 the 'vibe' here at FR has been decidedly hostile. I guess it was a matter of time before the newbie moderator got around to weeding me out for my sometimes unpopular views. So I join the ranks of A+Bert and so many others who gave FR a interesting flavor. I will miss coming here 20 times a day and keeping up on things. But without posting priviledges there is just no point. I must go find another conservative group to try to be a part of.

In the future, when a freeper who has been a loyal member since August 1998 crosses the line, how about a note instead of banning? Would that have been too much? I may have gotten out of line, how is beyond me, but if such a tresspass would have been pointed out I would gladly have refrained from doing so again. It is just not right to just ban an account with no explaination. Especially when the freeper has been here 4 years. I have no idea what I am going to do with my days now that I no longer have FR. Well, I guess I have said my part. It is a sad day when one has to leave family and friends. I feel like some of you were just that. But apparently I am no longer wanted around here. I bid my good day to you all and hope that karma pays it's respects to those who do injustice.

He was a soldier in the Taliban. At that time, we could care less about the Taliban. JJ was just stuck in a bad place. If I thought he had actually taken up arms against the USA, I would be all for lining him up in front of a firing squad. parsy the not as liberal as you think.

I find your analogy all wet. This man is a enemy combatant, in a time of war, with a criminal record, having served time for murder, a known al Quada operative, who may have been involved in OKC, and you are worried about the possibility of being snatched from your bed one night under a different administration, for the crime of.....?????? You planning on doing something that would put you in front of a military tribunal??

I have friends that lurk here and don't post, but log in so they can see pings to them.

Do they never post at all? Being an old Usenet hand, I can appreciate the logic and bandwidth-friendliness of lurking, but lurking for an entire year or more without ever posting (which is what I suggested) seems a bit excessive.

Alternately, your friends could drop Jim an email stating their wish to use their accounts to lurk without posting, and could subsequently have them placed on the "safe" list.

Oh, well, if Drudge says that -- especially on a Sunday night -- it must be true.

but Moussaoui was in a lighted cell for 24 hours per day. Sounds like nothing, but for 30 or 45 days, it takes its toll.

Oh for crying out loud. Prisoners are kept in lighted cells all the time. Many are on suicide watch. Could it be that if he was willing to die by crashing an airplane into a building that he was fully capable of dying for his cause in jail just to deny American justice?

I can't even fathom what it is that makes a persons mind work like that. I sleep peacefully. How about you?

What is so hard about the Padilla case?

There doesn't seem to be anything hard about it.

Why the need to play balanced and fair?

Why NOT play balanced and fair? How does this hurt anything?

Its straightforward..the man is a killer, terrorist and is an enemy of the US

From what we know, you seem to be right about this. Since this seems to be such a slam-dunk,why bother to cut corners?

It's in the courts now.

Habeus corpus does not mean that one gets released- it means only that a court reviews ones detention to see if it is lawful.

Going by the published reports, I think this guy will not be released by the courts.

We may have to dissagree over this.

I mean, I wouldn't have such a problem with someone running off and joining the Radical Muslim version of the Foreign Legion if we didn't happen to be fighting them at the time.

I mean, hey.. war zone.. had a gun. Looks pretty bad from here.

I know..

Do we really want to be "safe"??? I would rather be challenged. Most disruptors do not seem to be able to take the heat around here. Those who sincerely disagree on some typically conservative sacred cows, like me, stick around and take our lumps. parsy.

JJ is a twerp, at the very least, but the gov't has come down on him the way the ATF came down on WACO.

I don't believe your posted this bilge. So, Jihad Johnny is your pet project and hero now because the government picked him up and is holding him for trial?

Amazing.

Jihad Johnny was the sworn enemy of the US. Our troops should have come down on him HARDER than the ATF came down on the Branch Davidians. Much harder. And much, much faster. There should have been nothing more than scattered pieces of cooling flesh remaining of the Jihad-man after the B-52s finished dropping their CARE packages on his filthy, turbaned, scuzzbucket, traitorous head.

You may file for Habeas Corpus, however, if the government refuses to produce the charge and still confines you, then his rights to review and defend himself against the charge are not there. Then his h.c. rights have been denied, after a fact.

You wait here, I will go tell my cousin to run out to her dead fiancee's grave (who they pulled out New Years Eve) and tell him how bad his murderers have it. You're a frikkin idiot. Get out of America, why don't you. Or maybe you already are. Posting from Pali Land, are you?

BAD idea. I have friends that lurk here and don't post, but log in so they can see pings to them.

You are right, but only in the short run. In the long run, it's a great idea. The few lurkers affected can reregister each year but the disruptors with "sleeper" screennames would be forced to change MO's.

BTW, good seeing you again.
