Exactly. Everyone should be able to defend themselves.

They should agitate to reform the gun laws not to set themselves above them. By doing so they say quite clearly: 1) Only jews matter. 2) Only jews can bear guns. Goys don't matter.

This is your own prejudice speaking of how you think Jews think. If these guys are who I think they are, they are a small enclave of Jews who live in their own little communities, representing less than 1% of American Jews. They have little or nothing to do with politics and are far removed from the Chucky Schumers and Joey Lieberman's of the world. They're kinda like the Amish of the big city, they just want to live in peace and their attitude with the rest of the world is live and let live. They're law abiding citizens and they pay taxes. Now they want to defend themselves because the government can't, and the big NY politicians (many of them Jewish) won't let them. I'll support them even only in spirit.

I want to see what the JDG has done to spread firearm ownership to all Americans.

This is the first I've heard of the JDG so I don't know, but my initial guess is that they don't really know or care much about what goes on beyond their half mile radius community. There is a group called JPFO (Jews For the Preservation of Firearm Ownership) which does a lot to preserve the second ammendment. You should check em out. As far as I know they have more non-Jewish members than Jewish, in fact everyone I know who is a member is Baptist.
