June 16, 2002 -- The Jewish Defense Group - which says it wants to protect its neighborhood even as critics call them vigilantes looking to inflame tensions - will hit the streets today with its controversial armed patrols.

Leaders of the group last week raised the hackles of cops and other city leaders by vowing to patrol Jewish neighborhoods such as Borough Park and Flatbush.

Because if you believe in Jesus, you are a Christian, Not a Jew.

A guy I used to work with was a Jew who also believed in Christ. He was very careful to make the distinction between the Jewish religion and the Jewish heritage. Thus he considered himself a "Jew" because of his heritage and a "Christian" because of his belief in Jesus.

Is there also then no such thing as an atheist Jew by your definition of "Jew"?

THe vigilante are the NY politicians who forbid and destroy the lives of people unable to bear arms. I suggest NY cops not to obey their superiors.

I agree with this statement. Considering that the police do not have the obligation to protect civilians, I admire those willing to protect themselves. Esp. so considering that the politicians have left everyone in NYC helpless against criminals of all kinds, not just terrorists.

As for other arguments against the group and their "civil disobedience," one of the first articles I read about this topic specifically quoted the rabbi in charge as stating that only people with licenses for guns would carry them. No civil disobedience there, just law-abiding folks working within the law to protect themselves the best they can.

That article also mentioned that carrying shotguns in sacks might not be illegal, but carrying them openly would be.

The people behind this plan seem to have done their homework and are attempting to stay within the law. That, IMO, does NOT make them "vigilante" and I wish them the best as they try to stay safe (despite the politicians).

[that the jews, alone, are above the law]

The law is an ass, in this case, and is also unconstitutional. Jews in New York City have been targeted for attack in their own neighborhoods according to the words of a terrorist leader. There aren't enough cops in NYC to give any neighborhood in the city the coverage that the residents themselves can give their neighborhood.

I find it odd that members of a conservative forum, no- the premier conservative forum online, would criticize any group of Americans for exercising their rights in defiance of a corrupt government.

Are you a conservative or just a republican?

So, you think that "real terrorism" is carried out by something other than a gang? What do you think these jihadis are, an army? They're a gang of semi-literate fanatics who can be killed as easily as they can kill others. What is your plan, since government did diddly dick to stop the attacks on September 11th, 2001?

This approach hasn't yet been proven worthless, unlike the approach of governments.

Meir Kahane was no goofball. The people who thought he was are a bunch of liberal pissants who think whatever the Times reports is gospel. We should be so lucky as to have even a hundred Gentiles of the caliber of Meir Kahane in this country, rest his brave soul. I'm a Christian, BTW, before you get all excited.

I don't have time to respond to this thread in detail, maybe later, but it seems 2nd ammendment relevant, and I'd like to hear comments. Many of the comments on the thread seem particularly unfreeperlike relative to the second ammendment.

Are Jews defending themselves with firearms (cased) a threat? The police will protect them, after all. Should gunownership be selective, only for certain demographic groups? If I carry a firearm in a case, should I be a criminal everywhere? Is the 2nd a collective right after all? Am I missing something in the position of the anti-gun freepers here?

Solid work Lar. You teach these Freepers, not everyone can be trusted with a gun.

Especially these right wing crazies.

There oughta be a law. Get me in, I’ll write one. You can be Anti-gun czar.

No guns for right wingers (I know you’re just worried about the Jews, but all these right wingers are just as bad).

Thanks again Kisses from Tipper.

Amazing that you know the motivations of everyone involved and what the results will be. Probably, if some community patrollers shoot an Arab whose only crime is being an Arab, they will face criminal charges.

How you have formed this odd notion that the purpose of this community guard movement is civil disobedience to the gun laws is something you will have to explain. They had already announced their intention to patrol before the precinct commander shot his ignorant mouth off about them.

We have a 2nd amendment and it is designed to keep anyone in government from deciding, as you are doing, that some people have attitudes which make it allright for government to deny them their right to self defense. I don't care if the people are annoying, or loudmouthed or arrogant or that they won't listen to "reason" from precinct commanders. I support their right to keep and bear arms and to defend their homes, because to do otherwise is to deny my own right to do the same. That's a conservative principle, BTW.
