June 16, 2002 -- The Jewish Defense Group - which says it wants to protect its neighborhood even as critics call them vigilantes looking to inflame tensions - will hit the streets today with its controversial armed patrols.

Leaders of the group last week raised the hackles of cops and other city leaders by vowing to patrol Jewish neighborhoods such as Borough Park and Flatbush.

The " Vigilante Jews" are kinda silly. What are they trying to do, keep the arab terrorists from New Jersey out of their neighborhood? What a joke.

I think the "point" is that this neighborhood watch is going to do nothing to prevent terrorism. What will they do, point to some Arab on the street and say "There's a terrorist, get him!"? This is just silly, feel-good vigilantism and the only consequence might be some poor unsuspecting Arab getting beat up by some of the more rash members of the posse.
