Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such good information and I am printing it out. Yes, I will be at McChord. They have already recommended Rainier and Pike Place Market and suggested I do some reading about other things I'd like to see. The ferries are on my "must do" list. We once lived in Wyoming for a short time and I loved the mountains, so am looking forward to that sort of scenery again. The Washington mountains look much more lush than the Wyoming Rockies. I'm excited that I'll have a break from the Texas heat in August (like hell on earth). I've heard nothing but raves about the natural beauty in Washington, and can't wait. Again, thank you for sharing your insider knowledge!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Our head butcher lady said the same thing. She has relatives up in the Seattle area, and they were buying from seafood stores from $5 to $6/pound.
I think what is happened is that last week we had the famous Napa Wine Auction. The super rich elites fly in the week before or stay the week after. The chefs can charge several hundred $'s for each person in private dining. So the demand in this area for the Copper River Salmon for these 3 weeks puts it out of sight for the rest of us.

I agree with you 100% about the Oregon Coast...between Brookings and Gold Beach is a drive that just takes your breath away, and indeed it is just beautiful...
When we would visit my parents in Redwood Valley California, we would drive down I5 from Olympia, and then at longview cross over to Astoria...and drive down south to California...we have made that drive so many times, and have never tired of it...
We take lots and lots of time, and take many days to just make that journey...because there is so much to see...little seaside towns, wonderful seafood restaurants, the Sea Lion Caves, and just the wonderful natural beauty of that whole oceanside drive...Haystock Rock, near Cannon Beach, I think is also something else to see..
Did you ever watch the movie 'The Goonies'? I get a kick out of the story, but I really like to watch the movie, because it shows much of Astoria, as it was filmed there, and also shows Cannon Beach and Haystock rock....the scene at the end where the pirate ship of One Eyed Willie sets out to sea, is really a beautiful shot of the ocean and the rocks and the beach...

Why don't these people know where they live?
God bless and thank you NNLand!
Long may you be where ever you are.

To: glock rocks,
So what did you do, scatter a dozen eggs and some raw hamburger to lure him in.
Surely so soft hearted freeper will pledge a Dollar a Day to keep whatever the Dog's name is, alive.
Save the dog, and make it a $/day donor like glock rocks.

Perhaps we should go by the blood donor standard....800 Freeper donors? (^: Just think about Gideon....this regular guy raises a huge army at God's request, only to be told....nah, send the least courageous home, even though the enemy outnumbered even their larger army 10 to 1. God sent most of the army home. Smaller brave and wise army wins.

Cannon Beach and all of the haystack rocks is a beautiful area.
Sounds like you have the drill down correctly on how to drive down to California.
Type A freepers, please don't bother and stay away from coastal 101.

Thats a shame about the Copper River Salmon....its a treat, that comes only this one time a year, or so it seems...it would have been nice for some to have been put aside, for regualr folks, who look forward to their Copper River Salmon, and enjoy it just as much, maybe more so, than the rich...
It sounds as if you know and love the Oregon cost, as much as I do...the very first time, I made that drive so many, many years ago, I was really moved to tears by the beauty of the place...If our plans stay on track, we should be making that trip this year in the fall...I can hardly wait...

I live in the state of confusion. When I joined FR, there were only 30 in WI, so I figured they needed an extra person. I wanted to be SOCMom, but, those cheeseheads would have picked up on it...
