[history]
WASHINGTON - At least 286 New Yorkers were recorded as illegally double-voting in both the city and Florida in the 2000 presidential election, according to a Republican National Committee study. So did 207 New Jersey voters, suggesting double-dippers may have had a significant impact on the super-close election in which President Bush won Florida - and the White House - by just 537 votes.

The answer here is to 'out' these individuals. Yes, get a camcorder and go to their front door and knock. Ask them if they remember registering twice and if they knew it was against the law. We could get a 26 episode series for HBO out of this deal. It would great to watch them slam the door in our face. And then we go around to the driveway and show their car. We could end each episode with.....one citizen, one vote....real citizens vote, but only once. It would make the democrats cry.

"One major problem I had was that if they voted for a straight party vote, then double voted elsewhere, the straight party vote counted."
I could see where both political parties might go for this rule........I assume this was the case and that you were shown that this was a rule of the election.
Thanks for the info. Glad you are there doing this job and gives me a twinge of guilt to get more involved.

Our government certainly has the ability to institute minimal protections to prevent double-dipping. The obvious first step is to generate a number for each voter. On election day, each voter's number would be recorded and then sent to a national center to insure that no number was used twice. The technology already exists--go into any Walmart or Home Depot. Each one of millions of items has a separate and distinct SKU. The same scanners could easily be employed--every voter registration card could be bar-coded. By the way, look what information one must provide to get a
passport. The right to vote is at least as important as the right to go to Club Med, and should be treated as such.

Your idea certainly has merit. But can't you hear the (barf) "civil
libertarians" bleating about Nazi Germany, or some such nonsense?

Yes, the "civil libertarians" will always be out there. The minor inconvenience and potential diminution of privacy must be weighed against the major loss of liberty honest citizens face from voter fraud.

Seems to me that at the top of every state's absentee ballot form, a bold statement should explain that state's penalty for fraudulent voting, and require a signature of the voter that he understands the law and the penalty, so before he licks the stamp, he is seriously reminded that he just committed a felony and may spend time in the slammer.Good idea! Certainly works for me.

Boy, this story had no legs at all.
Can I assume that there would be numerous congressional investigations already in the works and carpet broadcasts on all networks if this had been a Dem study accusing Pubbies.
