I would think that the police probably told them to say no. I would also think the police would already have considered a sketch artist, but for reasons unbeknownst to us, nixed it. I don't think the family is in charge of this investigation.

Do you remember ever hearing of an eyewitnessed case of abduction at gunpoint that DIDN'T result in a sketch or photo being shown all over the place? I don't.
