BUT, I will say I agree with one thing they like about Islam: wearing concealing clothes. I know that sounds pretty weird coming from a woman who is sitting at the computer wearing shorts and a T-shirt, so let me explain.
My kids and I do historic reenacting as a hobby. I'm regarded as a hardcore, one of those obsessive stitch-counting psychos whose devotion to authenticity has no limits. That means that during the summer months I spend at least one weekend every month dressed in the clothing of a woman of the 1860s, including numerous petticoats, a corset, long stockings, drawers, boots, a dress that covers me from ankles to neckline, and a bonnet that pretty much covers all of my head and hair. Sounds pretty repressive and unpleasant, doesn't it? Must be rough being completely covered up, right?
Wrong. I find it quite enjoyable, and so do the other women who try it. There are many reasons we enjoy this attire, but just one of them is the same thing that attracts some women to wearing the Muslim "hijab." If you're a pretty, curvacious blonde woman, as I am, you can get tired of men talking to your boobs, assessing your ass, analyzing your legs, scrutinizing your crotch. So it's nice to take a little break from that sort of interaction and know that if a man is talking to you when you're pretty much covered up and you don't have all your stuff on display, he's with you not because he likes the shape of your hindquarters but because he likes you--yourself, your personality, your character, your mind, your soul. That's a refreshing change.
To some extent, the men seem to like it, too. I have never heard ordinary suburban men rhapsodize and romanticize about some woman the way I've heard them go on about a lovely lady gracefully wearing a hoop. There is something to be said for mystery.
None of which means I'm about to give up my bikini, of course. It was 95 here yesterday.
Islam is a disease. It's a cult. It needs to be eradicated.
Kill 'em, or convert 'em to Christianity - I don't care which. Ann Coulter was 100% correct.

I think Ms Imam missed a couple of verses in her reading of the Holy Qur'an.
Surah 9:23 - O you who believe! Take not your fathers and brothers for allies, if they prefer disbelief to belief.
Surah 29:8 - We have enjoined on a human being to be kind to his parents, but should they stress upon you to accociate with Me things which you know to be nothing at all, you shall not obey them.
Surah 33:4 - nor does He regard those whom you adopt as your children as your own (real) children.
RELIGION is very strong in Islam, Ms Imam. Family is a very distant finisher.
As for Ms Martin, a supporter or ERA signs up for a "religion" whose Holy Book states:
Surah 2:228 - Women have their rights...yet men have a place above them.
Surah 2:282 - One male witness equals two female witnesses to a transaction (paraphrase)
Surah 4:3 - You may marry that whom your right hands possess (your female captives of war).
Surah 4:11 - Allah prescribes (the following) law (of inheritance) for your children For male is the equal of the portion of two females.
Surah 4:34 - As for those women you apprehend disobedience and bad behavior, you may...beat them mildly.
Yes sir! The authoress of this article sure picked a couple of sharp ones to interview.
In essence it depends on what type of Islam you are looking at, and also how adherent the particular muslims are to their faith. Due to this there are some inherent differences between Moslem groups, even if they are from the same area and faith sib-group (eg Shiite, Sunni...even mroe esoteric branches like Sufi and wahhabi).
Anyway i have had the 'pleasure' of knowing certain families that follow Islam to the letter....and they do follow a lot of the rituals that Freeper posted! And go some steps further even!
However most moslems in the US are not as dedicated as their peers in more puritanical Islamic (and non-islamic) nations are, but that is not to say such practices are not real!
A good analogy is that of a guy in Brooklyn of Jewish heritage who consumes pork rinds and works on the Sabbath! Just ebcause he is not kosher does not imply the rules are non-existent...it just means he decided not to adhere to them.
"...Her healthy, farm-girl face, round and friendly, seemed constrained by the scarf wrapped tightly around her head and fastened under her chin with a silver pin. She wore glasses and a long, somber dress, decorated with a little embroidery. It loosely covered her, all the way to her ankles and wrists...
Complete with 'new' Hijab - from Omar's . . .
