Republicans are giving Democrats a rare if not
distorted welcome to El Paso.
Gov. Rick Perry is running a full-page ad in today's El Paso Times. And before they reach Downtown, Democratic delegates will see a large billboard promoting the "Texas Democratic Party 2002 Convention" with a "Welcome and Bienvenidos a El Paso."
But the names of Tom Daschle, Dick Gephardt, Joe Lieberman and Terry McAuliffe -- all national Democratic leaders -- are lined out and replaced by Texas Democrats Ron Kirk, Tony Sanchez, John Sharp and Molly Beth Malcolm.

"With a team like that, no wonder they want to keep it secret," reads the billboard, which cost El Paso and Texas Republican parties about $4,000. "What's wrong with having fun? Politics is a serious business, but you are supposed to have fun," El Paso GOP Chairman Alejandro Burgos said.
But El Paso Democrat Rosalba Saenz found no humor in it.
"We're not keeping anything secret," said Saenz, a convention planner and Sanchez campaign organizer. "We have a wonderful dream team. And the Republicans are really threatened because we have such a strong ticket."
Hahaha. Yes, Republicans are so threatened their plastering the Dems names all over billboards. lololol.
Thanks for the post ricer1 :D

Glad to have posted it for your entertainment... Last week, I was in Colorado at my daughter's gymnastics camp/workshop. My mind, however, was in Dallas wondering about all the happenings at the Repub. State Convention. This was the 1st time since 1990 that I've missed the convention, but was pleased with the platform work (especially the economic section addressing tax reform). I know you did a pile of work for that event, and my hat takes a laudatory bow to your efforts. -ricer1

From the El Paso Times -- it looks like these two forced their way in, despite being on the Dems' "we're embarrassed of you" list:
Reception featuring CNN's Paul Begala, Hilton Camino Real Hotel.
Former Texas Gov. Ann Richards' pre-convention party for John Sharp.

That billboard is funny! Good move by the Pubbies. But I'm still very concerned about Cornyn holding onto Gramm's seat. Get busy, will ya?!? ;-)
