US troops already encountered child soldiers in Vietnam... Precisely. The VC would remove the weapons, leave the bodies, and you'd have an instant atrocity on your hands. People who cannot comprehend what sent Lt. William Calley over the edge probably don't understand this.

Earlier than that actually. In 1944 the Hitler youth were called up and sent to the Western Front and they were more fanatical than the SS( no surrender no retreat).
