In Cuban history, he will be despised for his heavy-handed, single-handed oppression of the island's people.
What a waste of 42 years.
Bump!
Castro gives them their marching orders.
I read recently that most of your average Cuban's waking hours are spent finding enough to eat for that day, either black market or rations. Sad, very sad.
US tourism will not do anything substantial to help, probably only prolong the regime--just as European tourism is doing. Castro is too dogmatic to allow political reform. Apparently, he is also too stubborn to allow economic reform, which would solve some of their problems.
The very fact that she feels she needs to say that speaks volumes. Would a person in a country where pro-government marches are not mandatory ever say such a thing? With such obvious nonsense form on high, I can just picture what my response would be, were I trapped in such a place, to being forced to go to rallies or risk losing what little privileges the government has allowed. It would be as if the whole world had gone starl raving mad. People would have to be seething inside, without hope yet instinctively looking for a catalyst to make things right again, and everyone knows the world is mad but everyone is too afraid to mention it becuase of the fear that the cigar-chomping inmate and crazies ruling the asylum might go ballistic on them.
Planning a trip to Venezuela to help Hugo Chavez aka Castro II.
Bush has his number and won't subsidize his regime. The clock is ticking.
Why are they so upset? Socialism is alive and well in The United States.
Castro's brother is set to take his place upon his death.
Cuba wants to be left alone - yet they complain when we have sanctions that DO allow us to leave them alone! Maybe they want us to keep all money away from them. I think we could be gracious enough to do that. Hey, no problem-o.
I can't even begin to imagine. I wonder if we can even put ourselves into their minds.
After being isolated and trained to think a certain way, they still have to be told to march for Castro.
Castro 's regime has been a dead man walking since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The trading partners that kept him afloat have, for the most part, left the scene with pockets filled with worthless IOUs. Congresscritters who want us to "trade" with Castro, aka government backed loans, have campaign contributions from constiuents in mind and groups like the Cuba Policy Foundation are funded by pro-Castro groups like ARCA (Smith Bagley ). Even Jimmy Carter is a beneficiary of ADM who would like a piece of the action. They purchased his peanut farm for $1.5 million and gave him another $1.2 million for his Habitat for Humanity. Bush wants Casto out because he's EVIL and has denied freedom to the Cuban people for 43 years.
Castro's hold is one of personality cult. When he is gone, the country is quickly freed!
