Electric eel ad 'leaving children scared to go to toilet'

TV watchdogs have ruled a Hula Hoops advert featuring electric eels is too scary for young children.

The ad for Shoks shows the eels slithering out of taps and toilets after being released into the water supply.

Parents have complained pre-school children have been left too scared to go to the bathroom.

The Independent Television Commission has put a 7.30pm watershed on the advert being shown.

It is also considering whether to impose a total ban after receiving complaints from 106 viewers.

An ITC spokeswoman told Ananova: "We've had complaints from parents who say the advert has made their children too scared to use the bathroom. They think the eels will come out of the taps and the toilet.

"We've put a time restriction on to try and stop it being seen by young children. We're also investigating several other complaints.

"Some viewers are concerned about the welfare of the eels, some think it is irresponsible to show things being released into the water supply, and others just don't like the advert."

What a nation of wimps they are raising over there. Although I guess we can't be to smug; the same thing is happening over here.

Even at a young age, there is a strong instinct to protect "the boys."

Reminds me of the time I saw a snake come out of a faucet in Thailand, bathrooms have never been the same since.

"Reminds me of the time I saw a snake come out of a faucet in Thailand, bathrooms have never been the same since."

About 6 years ago, during construction on a neighbors home, the contractor left the soil pipe in the yard open overnight.

The result was a rat in our toilet.

I often thought about what may have happened if I had not seen it.

As my wife had trained me to put the seat down, I was saved.

God, I love my wife!

I would have died had that happened to me. I remember when Jaws 1 came out in 1975--I was 8 years old. I was so traumatized by it, I didn't even want to take a bath. I thought a shark was going to come through the drain. I suppose I was a pretty dumb 8 year old, but I wasn't at all familiar with oceans and sharks. Jaws still remains one of my favorite movies to this day.

I still remember when the ads for the movie "Rattlers" came out. I was about five years old.

The commercial showed snakes coming out of the faucet!

The obvious solution is to put a disclaimer on the ads that state

Notice: These eels will not really come out of your toilet

like the warning on Superman Halloween costumes that the suit does not enable the wearer to fly.

It's not electric but:

(in my best Dean Martin voice)
If it's long and it's green
and its bite makes you scream
That's a moray!

(Just wish I could find the music to it)

God Save America (Please)

Gee, the commercials are just getting too scary to watch. If I don't watch the commercials, then I can't very well watch the program or I'll be guilty of theft. What to do, what to do? I know, I'll just turn the damned thing OFF!

,,, I guess so. It would save using caustic soda in the toilet each time. Ahhhh, the ceramic library used to be so peaceful.
